Haiti's run at the 2026 World Cup has come to an early end. A 0-3 defeat against Brazil on the second matchday of Group C has extinguished the Caribbean nation's hopes of advancing to the Round of 32.
Brazil proved far too formidable for Haiti. In the match played Saturday morning, Haiti fell to three unanswered goals. Two strikes from Matheus Cunha and one finish from Vinicius Junior confirmed Haiti as the first team eliminated from the tournament.
As reported by Sport, Haiti are now mathematically ruled out of progressing to the knockout stage. Even with one remaining group fixture, their current points total cannot catch up to competing sides in Group C.

The new 2026 World Cup Format was structured to give more participants a path forward: group winners and runners-up automatically qualify for the Round of 32, while the eight best third-placed teams across all groups also secure knockout stage berths.
That lifeline is no longer within reach for Haiti however. After suffering back-to-back defeats, they sit rooted to the bottom of the Group C Standings with zero points. A minus four goal difference only worsens their position in the tightly contested group.
Above Haiti, Scotland have collected 3 points, while Morocco and Brazil both sit on 4 points. Brazil hold top spot courtesy of a superior goal difference over the Atlas Lions.
On paper, Haiti still have one final group match against Morocco scheduled for 25 June. Even a full victory in that fixture will not be enough to alter their final group standing.
This outcome stems from the ranking tiebreaker rules applied for the 2026 World Cup. When teams finish level on points, head-to-head results act as the primary deciding factor before goal difference is considered.
Under these rules, Haiti cannot overtake Scotland who already hold 3 points. Even by goal difference alone, Haiti also trail all other Group C rivals by a wide margin.
Despite their early exit, Haiti's journey to reach this World Cup finals deserves full recognition. The side nicknamed Les Grenadiers have returned to the World Cup stage for the first time since the 1974 tournament edition.
Back in 1974, Haiti were also eliminated during the group stage. Over half a century later, that history has repeated itself, though against a very different set of circumstances.
This achievement is all the more notable given Haiti's qualifying campaign. Amidst prolonged domestic unrest, Haiti were unable to host any of their home qualification matches on their own soil.
Yet they overcame every barrier to secure their ticket to the 2026 World Cup. This fact demonstrates the extraordinary fighting spirit of the squad and coaching staff while operating under severe limitations.
Results on the pitch did not unfold as hoped. But returning to compete on the Football world's biggest stage after 52 years away remains a proud, historic achievement for Haitian Football.
