List of Contestants for the 2026 World Cup Round of 32, Asia Sends Two Representatives

The 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage has concluded. Austria and Algeria are the final two teams to secure their spots in the Round of 32, the most prestigious football tournament worldwide. Japan and Australia qualified as the representatives from the Asian zone.

Both nations confirmed their progression after Austria and Algeria played out a 3-3 draw in the final Group J fixture. This result allowed both sides to continue their 2026 World Cup campaign.

Austria sealed their place in the Round of 32 as Group J runners-up. They finished the group stage with 4 points, level with Algeria, but advanced ahead on goal difference.

Algeria meanwhile progressed to the knockout stage via the best third-placed team qualification route. The North African nation finished within the top 8 ranked best third-placed sides across all groups.

The knockout phase is set to deliver far tighter, more intense competition compared to the group stage. All pre-tournament favourites including Argentina, Brazil, France, Spain, England, Portugal, Netherlands and Germany all qualified as predicted.

Alongside the global football powerhouses, the Round of 32 also features surprise qualifiers. Debutants Cape Verde have made history by progressing on their first ever World Cup appearance.

Conversely, a number of nations saw their campaign end early. Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, South Korea, Iran and the Czech Republic all failed to advance from their groups.
