Persebaya Surabaya secured their place in the 2026 President's Cup final after defeating Arema FC 1-0 in the semifinal match at Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium, Gianyar, Bali on Tuesday. Next, Bajul Ijo will face Persib Bandung in the final match on Thursday, 6 August 2026.
This East Java derby was played at a high tempo. The match atmosphere was filled with tough physical duels and tight pressing.
Arema FC briefly found the back of Persebaya's net in the 18th minute. However, referee Candra ruled the goal invalid for offside after reviewing the replay footage via Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

This decision became the turning point of the match. Persebaya gradually took control of the game and began pushing forward more boldly to penetrate Arema's backline and create scoring chances.
Persebaya defender Yuran Fernandes successfully beat Arema FC goalkeeper Adi Satryo to score during first half stoppage time. Bernardo Tavares' squad held a 1-0 lead heading into the half time break.
After the interval, Arema FC increased their attacking intensity to chase the deficit. Singo Edan played more aggressively, dominated ball possession and pressed Persebaya's defensive line.
Meanwhile, Persebaya maintained disciplined defensive organisation while launching fast counter attacks on several occasions.
The match momentum shifted after Diego Landis was shown a red card. Singo Edan were forced to play out the remainder of the match with 10 players on the pitch.
With the numerical advantage, Persebaya controlled the match rhythm with increasing comfort. The side successfully defended their 1-0 lead until the final whistle was blown.
With this victory, Persebaya will face Persib Bandung, who had already booked their final spot after eliminating Persija Jakarta 2-1.
