Amidst the rising Tourism Trend in nature, the Indonesia government has chosen a musical approach as an educational medium. Through the collaboration of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (Kemenhut) and musician Ady Naff, the song “Merbabu” was born.
This song invites climbers to rediscover meaning in their wilderness journeys—not merely conquering heights, but nurturing life within it.
The campaign was initiated by the Directorate General of Forestry Law Enforcement in response to surging interest in mountaineering, including to areas like Mount Merbabu, known for its savannas and serene trails.

Yet behind its charm lies a major challenge: maintaining balance between human exploration and Nature Conservation.
“This activity reinforces the message that Mountain Climbing isn't just about summiting peaks, but also ensuring personal safety, respecting nature, and preserving forest sustainability,” stated Dwi Januanto Nugroho in Bandung, West Java.
Wrapped in melody, “Merbabu” guides listeners through the silence of climbing paths, portraying fragile yet majestic beauty.
The message conveyed transcends aesthetics, offering profound reflection on humanity's place before nature.
“This song delivers an emotional message about mountain beauty, trail stillness, and human humility toward nature's grandeur,” he said.
The campaign also carries a firm warning. Dwi emphasized that mountains aren't lawless playgrounds, but living spaces with ecological values demanding protection.
“Mountains aren't arenas for reckless challenges against nature. They are habitats and ecologically significant areas,” he stressed.
This principle translates into tangible practices. Climbers are urged to comply with regulations, avoid littering, prevent vegetation damage, and maintain distance from wildlife.
The government continues promoting ecotourism through visitor quotas and crackdowns on illegal trails to preserve human-nature harmony.
“Through this campaign, we invite all climbers to implement responsible mountaineering principles—from physical preparation and procedural compliance to ensuring no negative environmental impact,” he concluded.
