Indonesia National Team's chance to advance to the 2026 AFF Cup semi-finals remains open. The final Group A match against Singapore will decide the fate of the Garuda squad. This second leg fixture will be held at Jalan Besar Stadium on 7 August 2026.
The crushing 0-3 defeat against Vietnam at Pakansari Stadium on Monday 3 August has left Indonesia in a difficult position.
Currently, Garuda sits in third place in the provisional Group A standings with six points. John Herdman's squad is one point behind both Vietnam and Singapore, who have each collected seven points.

Vietnam hold a very favourable position to secure their semi-final ticket. In their final group match, they will host Cambodia on home ground.
On top of their seven points, Vietnam also hold a +10 goal difference, making them almost certain to qualify for the semi-finals.
Only an extremely heavy defeat against Cambodia could potentially derail their progression to the next round.
Given this situation, all attention now turns to the Singapore versus Indonesia fixture. Singapore hold the advantage as they will play in front of their home supporters, and only require a draw to qualify.
Indonesia on the other hand must secure a victory to lock in their semi-final spot. The Garuda squad have no margin for dropped points if they wish to remain in the tournament.
A win is the only possible way for Indonesia to advance to the semi-finals. Should they claim victory, Indonesia will finish the group stage with nine points, surpassing Singapore's points tally.
Conversely, either a loss or a draw will end John Herdman's Indonesia National Team campaign at the 2026 AFF Cup.
