Who says running is only for the young? The recreational Sports Event titled Senior Happy Run 5K 2026: Run for Health & Happiness invites senior citizens to enjoy a leisurely run while promoting Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy on July 12, 2026.

This event offers a fresh perspective: seniors are not merely spectators in modern tourism activities, but active participants who bring urban spaces to life through movement, togetherness, and joy.

"This activity is specifically designed to be safe, comfortable, and enjoyable for seniors, so they can stay active without worry," said Senior Happy Run CEO Oni Yulfian during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The running route starts from the courtyard of the Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) at the Sapta Pesona Building, then proceeds through Jalan Merdeka Barat, Jalan Merdeka Selatan, the Thamrin area, and returns to the starting point. This path takes participants past some of Jakarta's most iconic sights.

Adopting the Sport Tourism for Seniors concept, this event blends light exercise with an urban tourism experience.

Participants are invited to enjoy the morning air, the rhythm of the capital's streets, and a sense of camaraderie rarely found in conventional running events.

More than just a sport, each team will later represent an Indonesian Tourist Destination and Creative Economy sub-sector.

In this way, participants become small ambassadors introducing the cultural richness of the archipelago in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

Throughout the event, various engaging activities will be present, including team awards for the best average time highlighting togetherness, a digital campaign promoting Tourist Destinations, particularly in DKI Jakarta, and appreciation for teams with the most creative costumes.

Local MSMEs will also enliven the event area with diverse local culinary offerings. For participants, the finish line isn't just the end of the journey, but the start of a taste adventure.

Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy for the 2011-2014 period, Sapta Nirwandar, believes this concept aligns with the global Health Tourism trend.

According to him, tourists don't need to wait until they are sick to enjoy Health Tourism facilities, as fitness and prevention are actually the core of this new experience.

"Hopefully, the Ministry of Tourism's aspiration for senior citizen tourism can be realized well because many (people), like the Japanese, are very eager to receive special services (from senior Health Tourism)," he hoped.

Indonesia has significant opportunities in the senior tourism sector. With its natural wealth, culture, cuisine, and wellness traditions, the country has the potential to become a prime destination for both domestic and international senior tourists.
