Bangkok is once again launching a unique accommodation destination for travellers. A historic building that previously functioned as the Customs House has been converted into a luxury hotel, scheduled to commence operations on 20 December 2026 following the official opening of guest reservations.

This project sets an example of how historical heritage can be preserved while being brought back to life through modern hospitality concepts.

This iconic structure will become the centrepiece of The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok; a hotel that combines historical value with world-class facilities.

"For generations, the Custom House has been Thailand's gateway to the world. We are proud to see it preparing to welcome the world once again as part of The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok," stated Langham Hospitality Group CEO Bob van den Oord, as quoted by Antara News Agency.

The Custom House was first built in 1888 during the reign of King Rama V. For decades, this building served as Thailand's international trade gateway before being restored as part of the hotel precinct.

Developers have retained the original historic structure to function as the hotel's public areas. Meanwhile, guest accommodation facilities are constructed in an adjacent new building, designed to respect and preserve the site's original architectural values.

This hotel will offer 75 units in total, comprising 60 guest rooms and 15 suites, designed by Thai architect Smith Obayawat.

The new building features curved silhouettes inspired by the flow of the Chao Phraya River, creating a harmonious blend between contemporary architecture and the historic structure.

Strong Thai cultural identity is woven throughout every interior space. The hotel incorporates geometric motifs drawn from traditional architecture, decorative lighting with royal symbolic nuances, and design elements that reference the period of King Rama V's reign.

Beyond accommodation experiences, The Langham Custom House Bangkok will also feature spa facilities, a fitness centre, and dining areas. The restored historic building will operate as public space accessible for both hotel guests and external visitors.

The property is located in Bang Rak District, directly on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. This strategic location provides travellers convenient access to popular Bangkok destinations including Asiatique The Riverfront, ICONSIAM, Chinatown, and the creative Charoen Krung precinct.

The launch of this hotel further expands Bangkok's premium accommodation options, while also demonstrating how historic building preservation can successfully coexist alongside the development of the modern tourism industry.
