The 2026 World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 11 next year in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The upcoming quadrennial football spectacle will feature three debutants. Meanwhile, Indonesia has been confirmed to fail to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after losing to Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

Of the 22 countries that have secured their place in the prestigious tournament, three are debutants ready to write history. These countries are Jordan, Uzbekistan, and Cape Verde.

For Cape Verde, the euphoria is still palpable. The small island nation off the west coast of Africa finally secured its golden ticket after a convincing 3-0 win over Eswatini in their final Group D African zone qualifier on Monday, October 13, 2025.

Meanwhile, Jordan and Uzbekistan secured their spots in the World Cup earlier in June. These two Asian teams symbolize the growing strength of football from a region that has long watched from afar.

Not only bringing debut stories, four other countries also confirmed their participation during this October international break. Egypt was the earliest to qualify, specifically on October 8. They were followed by Algeria on October 9, and Ghana on October 12.

With the growing list of participating nations, the new 48-team format of the 2026 World Cup feels increasingly ambitious. This is a significant increase from previous editions featuring only 32 teams, opening up broader opportunities for nations that have long lacked a stage.

Regionally, Asia (AFC), Africa (CAF), and South America (Conmebol) are currently the largest contributors, each with six representatives. North and Central America (Concacaf), the host region this year, has contributed three countries. One spot comes from Oceania, represented by New Zealand.

Meanwhile, from the European zone, no country has yet qualified for the 2026 World Cup.

The presence of three debutant teams will add new color to the 2026 World Cup. They are not just coming to complete the participant list. They come carrying dreams, hopes, and stories never written before.
