Indonesia has confirmed it will not send a football team to the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, which will be held from 19 September to 4 October this coming year. In total, Indonesia will field 432 athletes competing across 35 sports disciplines.
Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) Raja Sapta Oktohari confirmed that all selected athletes have undergone thorough selection processes and full preparations prior to being named as part of the Indonesian contingent.
"Every athlete travelling to the Games has gone through maximum selection and preparation processes. Now is the time for them to compete with confidence, give their absolute best performance, and make Indonesia proud," stated Raja Sapta Oktohari in an official press release issued in Jakarta.

Out of the 43 total sports contested at the 2026 Asian Games, Indonesia will not participate in 8 disciplines: baseball/softball, breaking, cricket, football, handball, kabaddi, rugby union, and sailing.
The 20th edition of the Asian Games will introduce several new debut sports including BMX Freestyle, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), padel, surfing, teqball, and virtual taekwondo.
Indonesia will compete in multiple of these debut sports, namely MMA, padel and teqball, which are expected to provide additional opportunities for medal acquisition.
Meanwhile, three sports disciplines: boxing, fencing and table tennis will be travelling to the Games using independent funding from their respective national federations alongside partner sponsorship support.
Even so, the Indonesian Olympic Committee has confirmed that all athletes will still receive equal services and facilities as official members of the national Indonesian contingent.
"Once they are officially part of Team Indonesia, they carry the same responsibility: to deliver their best performance and fight to win medals for our country," Okto added.
Alongside the 432 athletes, the Indonesian contingent will be accompanied by 148 coaches and officials, as well as 32 members of the Chef de Mission team.
The final contingent composition was finalised through joint evaluations with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Indonesian NOC Sports Commission, and national sport federations, with decisions based on athlete readiness and projected performance potential at the 2026 Asian Games.
