Amidst the roar of the National Stadium Warsaw, the Dutch national team showed they are just one step away from qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. The 1-1 draw against Poland on matchday 9 of Group G brings The Oranje closer to the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Now, the scenario is simple. The Netherlands only needs one more point in their final match against Lithuania to secure a place in the finals. A draw alone is enough to send the European giant back to the world's biggest football stage.

Poland played uncompromisingly from the first minute. With aggression and a high tempo, they pressed the Dutch defense.
The opening goal came in the 43rd minute. Robert Lewandowski delivered a precise pass that split the Dutch backline. Jakub Kaminski moved quickly from the left flank before releasing an accurate shot.
Kaminski's goal was a classic Polish type of goal – effective and hard to stop. The 1-0 scoreline held until halftime.
Depay Revives Hope, Netherlands Refuse to Surrender
But the Netherlands never lost direction just because they were trailing by one goal. Only two minutes into the second half, their response came right on time.
Originating from a Donyell Malen header saved by Kamil Grabara, Memphis Depay pounced on the rebound. The score became 1-1 in the 47th minute.
This goal was not just an equalizer, but a statement of the Dutch mentality that their journey to the World Cup must not stop in Warsaw.
Tight Tactical Duel, But Ends Without a Winner
The remainder of the match became a battle of concentration. Poland sought a second goal through Kaminski's speed and Zielinski's cleverness. The Netherlands responded through the movement of Cody Gakpo and Justin Kluivert, who often probed for openings.
However, both defenses proved too disciplined to be breached again. Virgil van Dijk was dominant at the back, while Grabara kept Poland alive until the end.
The final whistle blew, and the scoreboard remained unchanged at 1-1.
One More Point Towards the World Cup Paradise
With the added point, the Netherlands leads Group G with 17 points, three points ahead of Poland, who trails in second place with 14 points.
Now only one task remains for the Netherlands: take at least one point from Lithuania. On paper, the task seems light, but history always reminds us, football is a game that is never predictable.
