The preparations for the 33rd SEA Games and the 13th ASEAN Para Games in Thailand feel increasingly special. It's not just because the best Southeast Asian athletes will showcase their talents, but also because the medals to be contested are designed with exceptional aesthetics, merging contemporary sports motifs and traditional Thai art into one meaningful piece.
Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), Kongsak Yodmanee, explained that this medal design is more than just a symbol of victory; it's an emblem of pride. The design is touted as "beautiful and durable," embodying the sporting values upheld in the event's official theme, "Play by The Rules".
What makes these medals unique? Firstly, the traditional Thai grid pattern (Krid grid) is combined with modern sports field lines, creating a symbol that represents both Thailand's identity and the spirit of athletic competition.

This combination serves as a visual metaphor for ASEAN countries' cooperation through sports – that despite cultural differences, they share a common framework of unity, discipline, and fair play.
The medal's background motif utilizes traditional Thai weaving patterns, symbolizing the bond of friendship among athletes from all ASEAN nations.
These interlacing lines are not merely decorative; they imply the power of sports to connect communities, cultures, and national pride.
Quality Beyond Just Style
Beyond the artistic design, these medals are crafted to high standards. Each medal has a diameter of 8.5 cm and a thickness of 0.8 cm, with impact-resistant construction. The gold, silver, and nickel plating on the medal surface is designed to resist peeling.
The medal's front features the official logo of the 33rd SEA Games, while the reverse side displays the emblem of the SEA Games Federation along with event information.
The Philosophy of Play by The Rules
The theme "Play by The Rules" is not an empty slogan. Values of rules, discipline, sportsmanship, and fairness are genuinely embodied in the medal design. According to Kongsak, the design reflects Thailand's identity as host and serves as a symbol of regional cooperation among ASEAN nations.
This value is highly relevant in the sporting world: victory achieved the right way, respect for opponents, and the spirit of community among nations. For young athletes, such a medal becomes more than just metal; it's recognition of their struggle, dedication, and integrity.
Para Games Version: Symmetry that Reinforces the Message
Interestingly, the medals for the 13th ASEAN Para Games, to be held in Nakhon Ratchasima from January 20–26, 2026, will adopt the same overall design. Only the event logo and identity differ. This demonstrates host Thailand's strong commitment to maintaining symbolic uniformity and the values upheld across both events.
Kongsak emphasized that every medal is produced to high standards. He expressed confidence that these medals will become symbolic treasures forever cherished by the winners, not merely as proof of victory, but as emblems of honor.
