Bali has reaffirmed its charm in the eyes of the world. The Ministry of Tourism announced that Bali won the "The Best Island" award at the DestinAsian Readers’ Choice Awards 2026. This recognition strengthens Bali's position as a premier destination, often the first choice for international tourists in the Asia Pacific region.
"May this achievement further solidify Indonesia's position as a global tourism destination beloved by the world's people. This accomplishment also serves as an inspiration for all of us to continuously improve tourism industry standards and strengthen Indonesia's presence on the international stage," said Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa on Friday.
Bali surpassed Boracay, Flores and Komodo Island, Langkawi, Lombok, Maldives, Palawan, Phu Quoc, and two popular Thai destinations – Phuket and Koh Samui. These destinations have also long been favorites among international tourists.

According to Ni Luh, this achievement resulted from the joint efforts of tourism industry players, regional governments, and local communities who continuously maintain the quality of tourism services in Indonesia.
Behind the glitter of this achievement, the government also highlighted several challenges facing popular Tourist Destinations like Bali. One of them is the issue of waste management, which is a primary concern in tourist areas.
The Indonesian government, through President Prabowo Subianto, has introduced the Aman Sehat Resik Indah (Safe, Healthy, Clean, Beautiful) movement. This movement emphasizes the importance of systematic environmental management supported by eco-friendly technology.
As part of these efforts, the Badan Pengelola Investasi Daya Anagata Nusantara will accelerate the development of waste-to-energy power plant projects. Denpasar City is included in the first phase of the project locations.
"The waste problem certainly cannot be handled by one party alone. Collaboration from all stakeholders is needed so that Bali can continue to strengthen its competitiveness as Indonesia's primary tourism destination," said Ni Luh.
The DestinAsian Readers’ Choice Awards is an annual award organized by DestinAsian Magazine. Winners are selected based on the Travel Experiences of the magazine's readers, consisting of active travelers and international Travel industry professionals.
Bali first won The Best Island award in 2006 and has consistently regained it from 2022 to 2026.
This consistency further solidifies the island's reputation as one of the world's most beloved tourist destinations. A place where tropical nature, traditions, and hospitality meet in an unmatched harmony.
