Valverde Runs Riot at the Bernabeu
The match at the Bernabeu was entirely Valverde's stage. The Uruguayan midfielder scored a hat-trick that propelled Madrid to a resounding victory over the English giants.
According to UEFA records, Valverde's three goals were the key factor in Los Blancos' dominant display throughout the match.
This victory gives Real Madrid a significant advantage heading into next week's second leg at Etihad Stadium in Manchester.
The Spanish giants only need a draw or a loss by a two-goal margin to secure their place in the quarter-finals.
Conversely, City finds itself in a difficult position. Pep Guardiola's team must win by at least a four-goal margin at home to overturn the deficit and keep their hopes alive in Europe's elite competition.
PSG Goal Feast in Paris
While Madrid won efficiently, PSG entertained the Parc des Princes crowd with a goal-filled match. The French capital club overcame Chelsea 5-2 in a game that was open from the early minutes.
PSG's winning goals were scored by Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembélé, Vitinha, and two goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Chelsea put up a fight and equalized twice through goals by Malo Gusto and Enzo Fernández, one in each half.
However, PSG's attacking sharpness ultimately proved too much for the English representatives to withstand.
This result gives PSG a significant advantage heading into the second leg at Chelsea's home ground. Les Parisiens only need a draw or a loss by a two-goal margin to secure their ticket to the quarter-finals.
Conversely, Chelsea faces a monumental task. They must win by at least a four-goal margin at Stamford Bridge to overturn the aggregate score and keep their Champions League hopes alive this season.
