The prestigious duel plan between European and South American champions in the Finalissima 2026 faces uncertainty. The match pitting Copa America champions Argentina against European Cup champions Spain could potentially be moved from the Middle East to Europe.
Originally, the match was scheduled for March 27 at Lusail Stadium, Doha, Qatar. However, the geopolitical situation in the Middle East region has sparked uncertainty regarding the Continuity of several international Football events in that country.
Postponements of various tournaments and matches occurred following heightened regional tensions triggered by attacks from the United States and Israel against Iran. Responding to these conditions, the organizers are reconsidering the match location.

President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Rafael Louzan, stated that a decision regarding the match location is expected to be determined soon.
“It seems very difficult for the match to be played in Doha. Within the next 48 hours, we hope a decision will be made. It is highly likely it will be moved to Europe because the majority of the players are there. That would be the most sensible solution,” said Rafael Louzan as quoted by ESPN on Tuesday.
According to Louzan, moving the match to Europe is the most realistic logistical option. Many players from both national teams currently play for European clubs, so travel and Team Preparation would be much easier if the match were held on that continent.
The final decision will involve coordination between UEFA and CONMEBOL, along with local organizing committees who continue to monitor developments in the Middle East.
Although the relocation option is gaining strength, Louzan cautioned that the decision cannot be rushed as it involves pre-agreed commercial contracts.
“There is a lot at stake. This Finalissima agreement is a collaboration between UEFA and CONMEBOL through a promoter company that has contracted for six matches in Doha,” he explained.
This match package does not only include the Spain vs Argentina duel. Other events planned for Doha include Egypt vs Spain, Saudi Arabia vs Serbia, and Argentina vs Qatar.
Amidst the uncertainty, Louzan also emphasized the importance of solidarity with countries affected by the current geopolitical situation.
“We must show solidarity to countries like Qatar and Saudi Arabia. We do face problems, but they are experiencing the same,” he concluded.
