An almost impossible mission awaits FC Barcelona as they host Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal at Camp Nou, Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Trailing 0-4 on aggregate from the first leg, Hansi Flick's squad must create a perfect night if they want to keep their chances of defending the title alive.

Flick is not blind to the enormity of the challenge. However, the German coach assured that his team will not give up before the final whistle blows.

“We are four goals down and must turn something impossible into possible. That is our goal. It's not easy, but we will not give up,” said Flick, quoted from the club's official website.

He emphasized that the first key is to keep the goal safe. Without conceding, the chance for a comeback remains open.

“It's important not to concede, but we have to believe in our strength. We must always be confident. For instance, in each half we need to score two goals,” he said.

Flick stressed that his team must play aggressively, win duels, and maintain ball possession.

The 0-4 defeat in the first leg without managing a reply marked the first time Blaugrana failed to score in a domestic competition this season.

Nevertheless, this season's data shows Barcelona is the highest-scoring team with 71 league goals.

They have just scored seven goals in their last two matches, including a hat-trick by Lamine Yamal against Villarreal last weekend.

The problem is, Flick must reorganize the forward line following Robert Lewandowski's injury after the match against Villarreal. The absence of the main striker is an additional test in this monumental mission.

On the other hand, Diego Simeone assured his team will not get complacent with the big advantage. The Argentine coach demands full focus from his players even though they are practically one foot in the final.

“We are only focused on the match ahead of us, against a very good opponent. They play attacking, open football and perform as a team, making them one of the most competitive teams in LaLiga and Europe,” said Simeone, quoted from Tribuna.

Atletico impressed in the first leg by scoring four goals in the first half. That result puts Los Rojiblancos on the verge of their first Copa del Rey final since the 2012/13 season.

Simeone is aware Barcelona is on a productive streak and specifically highlighted the threat of Lamine Yamal

According to him, the young player must be forced to play uncomfortably and focus more on defending to reduce his impact in the attacking line.

Currently, Atletico is in third place in LaLiga, trailing Barcelona by 13 points with 12 matches remaining.

They have also secured a spot in the Round of 16 of the Champions League and will face Tottenham Hotspur.
