Alwi Farhan secured the gold medal mission for Indonesia in the men's singles at the 2025 Thailand SEA Games. The 20-year-old badminton player emerged as champion after defeating his compatriot, Moh Zaki Ubaidillah, in an all-Indonesian final held at Thammasat University Rangsit Campus, Bangkok, on Sunday.
Although the gold medal was guaranteed for the Red and White from the start of the match, the final duel still unfolded with high tension. Alwi had to work hard before finally securing a rubber game victory with a score of 13-21, 21-8, 21-12 over the player affectionately known as Ubed.
Alwi lost the first game after struggling to contain Ubed's aggressiveness. Fast play and a willingness to take risks saw Alwi fall behind 13-21. However, a change in approach became the key to the comeback for the Indonesian second seed.

In the second game, Alwi appeared far more disciplined. Tight defense and patience in playing long rallies caused Ubed to often rush to finish points. The momentum shifted. Alwi dominated the course of the second set and won decisively 21-8 to force the deciding game.
Entering the third game, control of the match was entirely in Alwi's hands. Ubed seemed to lose focus, while Alwi maintained his rhythm, exploited openings, and managed the match tempo maturely. Point by point was collected until Alwi finally closed the match 21-12 after Ubed's return went out of bounds.
Emotions spilled over after the final point. Alwi dropped his racket and covered his face, before rising and hugging Ubed who approached him. That moment became a symbol of success and sportsmanship in the final between fellow Indonesian representatives.
Alwi's journey to the championship was notably consistent. He began his campaign in the round of 16 by defeating Vietnamese representative Nguyen Hai Dang in straight games 21-17, 21-15 on Thursday, December 11, 2025. The dominance continued in the quarter-finals when he ousted Villaflor Clarence with a score of 21-14, 21-18 on Friday, December 12, 2025.
The toughest challenge came in the semifinal. Facing Hoh Shou Wei of Malaysia on Saturday, December 13, 2025, Alwi had to go through a three-game battle. After losing the second game, he rallied in the rubber set and secured a 21-10, 15-21, 21-14 victory to advance to the final.
The success of Alwi and Ubed in the pinnacle match ensured Indonesia secured the gold and silver medals in the men's singles event at the 2025 SEA Games. This achievement confirms that the regeneration in the men's singles sector is on the right track.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's medal contributions also came from other sectors. Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari won silver in the women's doubles, while Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum contributed a bronze in the same event. Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu also enriched the medal tally with a mixed doubles bronze.
Indonesia still has an opportunity to add gold through the men's doubles sector. Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani are scheduled to face the Malaysian pair, Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, in the final match on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
Previously, the Indonesian national badminton team had also presented gold in the men's team event and silver in the women's team event. This series of results confirms Indonesia's position as one of the leading badminton powers in Southeast Asia.
