Brobbey-Gakpo on Fire, Netherlands Shut Out Sweden 5-1

Netherlands delivered an impressive performance to overcome Sweden with a convincing 5-1 scoreline in the 2026 World Cup Group F match held at NRG Stadium, Houston, during the early hours of WIB on Sunday, 21 June 2026.

Two star players for De Oranje, Brian Brobbey and Cody Gakpo, emerged as the heroes of this victory after both scored two goals each. Crysencio Summerville added one additional goal, while Sweden could only respond with a single goal from Anthony Elanga.

This strong result lifted Netherlands to the top of the provisional Group F Standings with four points from two matches. Meanwhile, Sweden dropped to second place after holding a total of three points.

Netherlands seized full control of the game right from the opening minutes. Just five minutes after kickoff, Brian Brobbey broke the deadlock by converting an accurate through pass from Cody Gakpo.

The Dutch side continued to apply heavy pressure and doubled their advantage in the 17th minute. Brobbey found the net once again, finishing Denzel Dumfries' assist with perfect execution.

Trailing by two goals, Sweden attempted to fight back. Viktor Gyokeres created a dangerous goalscoring opportunity, but Netherlands Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen reacted quickly to neutralise the threat.

Sweden did briefly manage to put the ball in the Dutch net, however the goal was disallowed by the referee as Gustaf Lagerbielke had been in an offside position prior to the finish.

After the halftime break, Netherlands once again demonstrated their clinical finishing. Only two minutes into the second half, Cody Gakpo extended the lead to 3-0 in the 47th minute, converting another assist from Dumfries.

Gakpo scored his second goal of the match in the 54th minute. The Liverpool forward successfully finished a cross from Crysencio Summerville to put Netherlands 4-0 ahead.

Sweden finally pulled one goal back to reduce the deficit in the 59th minute. Anthony Elanga converted a pass from Alexander Isak to make the score 4-1.

Even after this, Netherlands maintained full dominance over the match until the final whistle. Shortly before regular time ended, Summerville added Sweden's final blow by scoring the fifth goal in the 89th minute.

The 5-1 score remained until the full time whistle sounded, confirming that Netherlands had secured a vital win in the 2026 World Cup Group F standings race.
