United States President Donald Trump is confirmed to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup final match between Spain and Argentina at New Jersey Stadium on 20 July WIB. Trump's attendance has become one of the key highlights ahead of the climax match of the world's largest football tournament.

This final will mark Trump's first in-person appearance at a stadium throughout the entire 2026 World Cup. His presence also formally closes the tournament which was held for the first time across three host nations: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that Trump's attendance reflects the United States' success as host of this most prestigious football event.

"The President's attendance will cap off what has been the most watched, safest, and most successful World Cup in United States history," said White House Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, as quoted by The Guardian.

Leavitt added that Trump's presence serves as the ideal closing symbol for this globally focused tournament.

"This is the fitting conclusion for a tournament that demonstrated America's ability to host the world on the biggest international stage," she stated.

Prior to attending the final match, Trump is scheduled to attend an official FIFA event at Trump Tower, New York on 18 July WIB.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino had previously announced Trump would attend the final match and present the championship trophy to the winning team. This plan was only formally confirmed by the White House recently.

Despite never making an in-person stadium appearance during earlier matches of the tournament, Trump's name repeatedly drew public attention throughout the 2026 World Cup.

One notable incident occurred when Trump publicly revealed he had requested FIFA President Gianni Infantino to review the red card issued to United States striker Folarin Balogun. The red card was handed to Balogun during the match against Bosnia.

Following the official review, FIFA revoked Balogun's one-match suspension, allowing the striker to feature for the United States against Belgium in the Round of 16.

Even with Balogun eligible to play, the host nation was still unable to avoid a heavy 1-4 defeat.

Trump's planned trophy presentation also reminds the public of the controversial moment that followed the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final.

During that ceremony, Trump handed the trophy to Chelsea captain Reece James, but remained standing on the winner's podium while the squad celebrated their title.

The incident sparked widespread public discussion, especially after it was later revealed that the ceremony's replica trophy was subsequently kept at his office.
