Indonesia Men's Singles player Alwi Farhan has successfully claimed the 2026 Australian Open championship title. Meanwhile, two national Red and White doubles pairs, Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani and Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari, had to settle for runner-up positions at this BWF World Tour tournament held at Sydney Quaycentre.
Alwi Farhan delivered an outstanding performance in the men's singles final. The young Indonesian Badminton athlete defeated Chinese representative Dong Tian Yao in two straight games, with matching final scores of 21-13, 21-13.
This title marks a critical career milestone for Alwi, who had faced a difficult run during the Thomas Cup prior. His victory in Sydney signals the return to form of one of the most promising active talents of Indonesian Badminton.

"This feels incredibly good. These last few months I was completely crushed by what happened at the Thomas Cup. But praise be to God, I am grateful for everyone who criticized me, supported me, stayed loyal and kept praying for me," Alwi stated in remarks quoted by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI).
Despite this win marking his second career BWF Super 500 title, Alwi emphasized he will not allow himself to grow complacent. He noted there remains significant work required to return Indonesian badminton to its world leading standard.
"As everyone has witnessed lately, we are navigating a very challenging period right now. I truly hope Indonesian badminton can recover and improve very soon," Alwi added.
Elsewhere, Indonesia's hope of securing a second tournament title via the men's doubles category did not materialise. Pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama / Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani were outclassed by Chinese duo Chen Bo Yang / Liu Yi in their final match.
Sabar/Reza conceded the fixture in two straight games with scores 15-21, 19-21, unable to break through their opponents' disciplined game play and airtight defence.
"They played far more conservatively today, their defensive line was completely solid. They were simply the better side on match day," Sabar commented post-match.
Despite not lifting the trophy, the pair who maintained consistent form across the entire tournament framed this runner-up finish as valuable preparation for upcoming competitions.
"We didn't take the title, but this result still holds huge value for us. We hope this becomes the turning point for our performance and gives us greater confidence for future championships," Sabar said.
In the Women's Doubles draw, Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma / Meilysa Trias Puspitasari also finished in second place, falling to Chinese pair Jia Yi Fan / Zhang Shu Xian.
Ana/Trias showed strong early promise in the opening game, before ultimately dropping the match 22-24, 13-21.
"We actually had full control of the first game right from the start, but we failed to stay calm and patient at the critical closing points. We rushed our play when we were leading. We tried to reset for the second game, but they had already found their rhythm by then," Ana explained.
This result marks Ana/Trias' second consecutive Australian Open runner-up finish, after they also fell short of the title at the previous tournament edition.
"The positive takeaway is we found good match rhythm and energy here. We just need to carry this momentum forward," Trias added.
