The campaign of Indonesia Men's Singles shuttler Anthony Sinisuka Ginting at the Australian Open 2026 has ended prematurely. Indonesia's flagship Badminton athlete was eliminated in the Round of 32, falling in straight games to Dong Tian Yao, representative of China, at Quaycentre, Olympic Boulevard, Sydney on Wednesday.

Ginting went down with identical 15-21, 15-21 scorelines across both games. This result marks a heavy setback for the 29-year-old, who arrived in Australia aiming for a deep tournament run to improve his form on the BWF World Tour circuit.

Ginting actually showed promising play from the opening exchanges, even holding the lead at multiple points during the first game. However, a tactical adjustment by Dong Tian Yao completely shifted the dynamic on court.

The Chinese shuttler stepped up his aggression and applied relentless, suffocating pressure that left Ginting struggling to respond. Dong's growing dominance gradually broke down the playing rhythm of the Indonesian representative.

"Today my opponent simply performed better than I did. I had built an early lead, but he adjusted his strategy and playing pattern. He pushed the pace non-stop and I could not find a way out of that pressure," Ginting stated in official PBSI remarks following the match.

Alongside difficulty adapting to his opponent's shifted game plan, Ginting also admitted he committed costly unforced errors during high-stakes moments.

"On top of that, I made far too many personal mistakes, especially on deciding points. I failed to maintain proper control of the rallies when I was leading, when scores were level, and all critical turning points," he explained.

Throughout the first game, Dong Tian Yao maintained consistent offensive pressure, while Ginting made repeated attempts to fight back into the match.

An almost identical pattern unfolded in the second game. Despite trailing early, Ginting showed great fighting spirit to claw his way back and level the scores at 15-15.

"I had good momentum when I pulled back to 15-15 in the second game, but play was halted for an extended period after he lodged a protest. When we resumed, I could not recover that same rhythm," Ginting added.

Once play restarted, Dong Tian Yao kept his composure and converted scoring chances effectively, while Ginting was unable to recapture his earlier momentum.

Despite this disappointing result, Indonesia still has one men's singles athlete progressing to the next stage. Alwi Farhan delivered an impressive performance to knock out Taiwan's Jhuo-Fu Liao with a comfortable 21-13, 21-12 victory.

This win advances Alwi to the Round of 16, where he will face Minoru Koga. The Japanese shuttler secured his own spot earlier with a 21-13, 15-21, 21-16 win over Taiwan's Li Yang Su.
