Herdman is keeping Indonesia's starting lineup against Timor Leste for the 2026 AFF Cup confidential.

Indonesia National Team head coach John Herdman is still keeping his planned matchday squad under wraps ahead of their 2026 AFF Cup Group A fixture against Timor Leste. This match will be hosted at Chonburi Stadium, Thailand, on Friday 31 July at 17:00 WIB.

Herdman gave no definitive answer when questioned about potential player rotation. During the pre-match press conference held on Thursday, the 51-year-old coach intentionally kept details undisclosed to leave the public guessing.

"I'm going to make all of you speculate about tomorrow's line-up," he stated.

He confirmed this approach is also part of efforts to maintain excitement amongst supporters.

"I believe it is important to keep fans engaged and let them predict who will take the field," he added.

This statement opens up the possibility of changes to Indonesia's playing composition. This follows Herdman handing senior debuts to three players during the previous match against Cambodia.

Three Debutants Featured Against Cambodia

Indonesia began their 2026 AFF Cup campaign with a dominant 5-1 victory over Cambodia at Pakansari Stadium, Bogor Regency.

Herdman awarded first senior caps to three players in this opening match. Mitchell Baker emerged as a standout performer; named in the starting eleven, he went on to score a hat-trick on debut.

Jens Raven also marked his first international appearance with a goal after coming on as a substitute, while Brian Fatari earned his maiden senior cap for Indonesia.

Alongside the debutants, Herdman also recalled multiple players who had been absent from the national squad for extended periods.

Marc Klok received game time after missing Indonesia's previous four fixtures under Herdman's tenure.

Goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata returned between the posts, having last represented Indonesia back in November 2023 against Iraq during the second round of 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Egy Maulana Vikri was included in the squad after failing to feature in Indonesia's last six matches dating back to September 2025.

Another player granted a recall is Kadek Agung, who last appeared for the national side at the 2020 AFF Cup which concluded in late 2021.

Herdman Confirms Indonesia's Match Target

While continuing to withhold line-up details, Herdman has made no secret of Indonesia's core objective for the Timor Leste fixture.

Securing victory is the clear target for the Garuda squad, to protect their progression path to the semi-finals and continue their push towards the tournament final.

Herdman has demanded his players maintain consistent performance standards from kick off through to full time. He emphasised that every squad member will be expected to deliver their maximum ability, regardless of who is selected to start the match.

"We will give everything we have, as we always do. That is the standard I always demand from this group: we have established expectations, and every player will uphold them from the first whistle right until the final one," he concluded.
