School holiday periods are always one of the busiest cycles for Indonesia's tourism sector. Alongside the projected surge in movement of Domestic Indonesian Tourists expected between mid-June to July 2027, tourism destination operators are instructed to carry out full preparations in order to deliver safe, comfortable and Memorable Holiday experiences for all visitors.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa emphasized that the school holiday window is a critical period to drive growth of the national tourism sector. For this reason, all relevant stakeholders are expected to collaborate to maintain service quality at tourist destinations across all regions.

"We call on all tourism stakeholders to continue working together to deliver safe, comfortable and high-quality destinations, so that tourists can enjoy their holidays peacefully and leave with positive impressions of Indonesian Tourism," she stated.

This statement was delivered by Ni Luh during an official inspection visit to Waterbom Bali on Friday, 5 June. During the visit, she stressed that the expected visitor surge during school holidays must be anticipated with thorough preparedness from destination management teams.

According to her, the government has made tourist safety, security and comfort the absolute top priority when visitor volumes increase significantly.

For this reason, all Tourist Destination operators are required to ensure all supporting facilities and infrastructure remain fully functional throughout the entire holiday season.

Ni Luh explained that the school holiday period is not only an opportunity to increase Tourist Visit Numbers, but also a key moment to demonstrate the management quality of Indonesian Tourist Destinations.

She noted that destination preparedness must cover all critical aspects: visitor capacity management, risk mitigation, implementation of safety standards, waste management, right through to the readiness of frontline staff serving tourists.

With proper management, tourists will be able to enjoy a pleasant holiday experience while feeling safe throughout their stay at their chosen destination.

To support these efforts, the Ministry of Tourism has prepared a series of training programmes for tourism business operators. These programmes are designed to improve competency in managing high-risk tourism activities.

The training covers adventure tourism sectors including Mountain Tourism, aquatic recreation, white water rafting and snorkelling, all fields which require strict formal safety standards.

Additionally, the Ministry of Tourism has also formalised the Indonesian National Occupational Competency Standards (SKKNI), which acts as the official guideline for delivering visitor services.

These standards regulate all stages of visitor service, starting from travel planning right through until tourists return home from the destination they visited.

"This document may be utilised by all stakeholders, including the wider tourism industry, to ensure destinations are prepared to meet all tourist safety, security and comfort requirements," she explained.

Meanwhile, Waterbom Bali management confirmed they have already carried out extensive preparations to face the expected visitor surge during the upcoming school holiday season.

Waterbom Bali CEO Sayan Gulino stated that all facilities and supporting amenities have been readied to continue serving tourists optimally even at elevated visitor volumes.

"With proper capacity management, visitors will not face excessively long queues, locker availability will remain sufficient, and hygiene standards for toilets and public facilities will be consistently maintained," he concluded.
