South Jakarta has reaffirmed its position as one of the most popular tourism hubs in the capital. Latest data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) DKI Jakarta shows this region was the top preferred destination for Domestic Indonesian Tourists throughout April 2026, contributing 28.10 percent of total visitor arrivals.
This achievement placed South Jakarta at first rank above all other administrative regions in DKI Jakarta for Domestic Visitor Arrivals.
Diverse tourist destinations, culinary districts, and entertainment centres are the core factors that continue to attract travellers from across the country to this area.

"South Jakarta has far more tourist locations, culinary hubs, and other attraction sites compared to every other region in Jakarta," stated Kadarmanto, Head of BPS DKI Jakarta, in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Based on BPS DKI Jakarta records, Central Jakarta stood in second place with a 20.42 percent share of visitor arrivals.
East Jakarta followed with 19.48 percent, West Jakarta at 16.32 percent, North Jakarta at 15.16 percent, while the Thousand Islands Regency only contributed 0.52 percent.
Even as South Jakarta remained the favourite region for domestic tourists, the total volume of tourist trips to Jakarta overall recorded a decline in April 2026.
A total of 8.74 million Domestic Tourist trips to the capital were registered during this period.
"On an annual basis, this figure also dropped by 17.44 percent," Kadarmanto added.
According to Kadarmanto, the month-on-month decline was triggered by the conclusion of the annual Eid homecoming exodus that was held in March 2026. For the year-on-year drop, differing scheduling of the homecoming period was identified as one of the main factors affecting tourist movement patterns.
Despite the reduction in tourist trip numbers, Jakarta's hotel sector actually demonstrated positive growth trends. The Average Room Occupancy Rate for star-rated hotels reached 54.80 percent in April 2026.
"This also marks an annual increase of 7.94 percentage points compared to April 2025," he explained.
This rising hotel occupancy rate signals that both tourism activity and Business Travel in Jakarta remain on a positive trajectory.
Non-star rated hotels also recorded growth, reaching an occupancy level of 38.09 percent.
BPS noted that the average length of stay for guests at star-rated hotels stood at 1.60 nights during April 2026.
"This means guests typically stay between 1 and 2 nights," Kadarmanto stated.
Meanwhile, the average length of stay for guests at non-star rated hotels and other accommodation facilities was recorded at 1.33 nights.
This figure indicates that the majority of tourists and travellers opt for short duration visits while in the capital.
Data also confirms that the domestic market remains the backbone of Jakarta's hospitality industry.
Guests at star-rated hotels were dominated by Indonesian Visitors with an 88.93 percent share, while international tourists only contributed 11.07 percent.
Notably, hotel preference patterns differ between Domestic Tourists and international visitors. Indonesian travellers most commonly select 3-star hotels.
"3-star hotels remain the favourite for Indonesian guests, holding a 34.6 percent share. Meanwhile, international guests tend to stay at 4-star hotels, which accounted for 43.12 percent of all foreign visitor stays," Kadarmanto elaborated.
South Jakarta's ongoing popularity as a preferred domestic Tourist Destination is closely tied to the diverse range of experiences it offers.
Legendary culinary districts, modern shopping centres, public green open spaces, along with a wide array of entertainment and lifestyle venues have turned this region into the main draw for travellers looking to experience the dynamic side of the capital.
