Indonesia national team striker Ole Romeny's transfer to Fortuna Sittard was heavily influenced by his Garuda squad teammate Justin Hubner. Before accepting the Eredivisie club's offer, Romeny first sought advice from Hubner, who had already represented Fortuna Sittard for one full season.
Romeny officially joined Fortuna Sittard on a season-long loan from Oxford United. This move also brings him back to the Dutch top flight, the competition that forged his career after he first developed as a player with NEC Nijmegen.
In an interview with ESPN NL, Romeny revealed he held discussions with Hubner while the pair were on international duty with the Indonesia national team.

"That's right, I spoke with him (Justin Hubner) when we were with the national side in Indonesia last summer," Romeny stated, as cited by ESPN NL on Friday.
Hubner gave a very positive account of his experience at Fortuna Sittard. This feedback became one of Romeny's key considerations before agreeing to the club's offer.
"And he just said, 'Yeah, this is a really great place for me'. So we did have a quick conversation about it," he added.
Returning To The Competition That Made His Name
For Romeny, joining Fortuna Sittard also means returning to a competition he knows intimately. Prior to his move to England with Oxford United in January 2025, the 26-year-old striker spent one and a half seasons with FC Utrecht.
During his time at Utrecht, Romeny made 32 appearances across all competitions and scored three goals.
Turning out for Fortuna Sittard will give him the opportunity to re-prove his quality in the Eredivisie while also securing more regular playing minutes.
Team-Mates At Club Level With A Fellow Indonesia International
Alongside returning to the Netherlands, Romeny is also enthusiastic about now being at the same club as Justin Hubner. Until now, the pair had only crossed paths during national team training camps and international matches.
They will now work together at club level, an arrangement Romeny describes as a welcome extra benefit.
"Of course it's always nice to be around your national team friends, even at club level. This means we can travel over to Indonesia together too," concluded Romeny, who has netted six goals from 10 caps for the Garuda squad.
