The Liverpool versus Manchester United match is never just an ordinary game, often filled with drama. For Liverpool Manager Arne Slot, this weekend's North-West Derby isn't just about prestige, but also a moment for his team's resurgence after a streak of poor results.
Liverpool will host Manchester United in the eighth week of the 2025/2026 Premier League at Anfield on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 22:30 WIB. The Reds arrive under heavy pressure after suffering three consecutive defeats—two in the Premier League and one in the Champions League.
"I don't think it matters who we face on Sunday. If you lose three games in a row and you're wearing the Liverpool shirt, whoever your opponent is, you have to react," said Slot in a pre-match press conference quoted from the Premier League's official website.

Productive But Vulnerable to Counterattacks
Across those three losses, Liverpool conceded five goals while scoring only two. Notably, two of those five goals came in the dying minutes—against Crystal Palace and Chelsea. Slot acknowledged his team's weakness isn't spirit but defensive structure.
"If there's one thing I can't blame the players for, it's that they’ve given everything in every match. They’ve poured everything in from the first minute to the last."
Tactically, however, Slot highlighted two issues: fewer chances created compared to last season and a defense too easily breached.
"Compared to last season, we haven’t created as many chances as we did early last term. Still, we remain a team generating many opportunities and shots on target from open play, but we’re conceding too many goals," he explained.
In detail, Slot mapped out the 9 goals conceded by Liverpool: 4 from set pieces and 5 from counter-attacks and open play.
A Special Derby, a Dangerous Opponent Despite Mid-Table Position
In the standings, Liverpool sit second with 15 points, while Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are 10th with 10 points. But Slot refuses to judge United by the table.
"United have started this season better than their league position suggests, so it’s a very interesting match, especially at Anfield," he said.
First-Choice Keeper Absent, Two Defensive Pillars Recover
Liverpool will definitely be without the still-injured Alisson Becker. However, there’s positive news: Ryan Gravenberch and Ibrahima Konaté are likely to return.
Gravenberch was injured while playing for the Netherlands in 2026 World Cup European Qualifiers, while Konaté got injured against Chelsea.
