Jakarta – Ahead of his farewell match with Liverpool, Mohamed Salah has issued a shocking public statement. The Reds' star forward openly criticised the complete loss of the team's playing identity this season, while still vowing he will fight with everything he has to secure a qualification spot for the Champions League.
Salah delivered this sharp remark via his personal Instagram account on Sunday (17/5). He specifically called out the disappearance of the aggressive playing character that has long been the defining trademark of the Anfield club.
"I want to see Liverpool go back to being that feared 'heavy metal' Football side that wins trophy after trophy. That is the Football I know how to play. That is the identity we must restore, and guard forever," Salah stated firmly.

End of an Era for Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, an Unforgettable 9-Year Journey
This criticism emerged after Liverpool suffered a bitter 2-4 defeat against Aston Villa the preceding Saturday. This poor result has left the Anfield squad hanging by a thread. They are now forced to claim an absolute victory over Brentford in the final Premier League fixture at Anfield on Sunday (24/5) to lock a top 5 finish, the final cutoff position for Champions League entry.
Next weekend's closing match will also be an emotional milestone for Salah, who has already confirmed he will depart the club at the end of this season.
Furthermore, the 33-year-old's post appeared to confirm the reported tensions between himself and head coach Arne Slot. Salah once again implicitly questioned the tactical approach implemented by the manager throughout the campaign.
"I watched this club transform from a group of doubters, into believers, then into champions," wrote the Egyptian international. "Watching us collapse and suffer defeat after defeat this season cuts deep. This is not what our fans deserve."
To conclude his statement, Salah issued a firm reminder that upholding high standards is non-negotiable at Liverpool. He emphasised that scraping one or two individual wins can never be the final objective for a club of Liverpool's stature.
Despite his ongoing disappointment, Salah confirmed he will give full absolute dedication in next weekend's final match. He labelled Champions League qualification for next season as the "bare minimum" that must be delivered for the loyal Reds supporters.
