World number one Tennis Player Jannik Sinner reaffirmed his dominance at the ATP Masters 1000 level by winning the Mutua Madrid Open 2026. Sinner defeated Alexander Zverev in the final with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 scoreline at the Manolo Santana Stadium on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
This victory made the Italian player the first male tennis player in history to win five consecutive Masters 1000 tournaments.
"I think there's a lot of work behind it," said Sinner when asked what winning five consecutive Masters 1000 titles meant to him.

"A lot of dedication and sacrifice that I put in every day. Obviously, this means a lot to me, seeing this result. At some point, the results will drop, which is a normal thing," he added.
Sinner's performance throughout the tournament was outstanding. In his last five Masters 1000 titles, including Paris, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, and Madrid, he lost only two sets.
Not only that, Sinner was flawless against Zverev in the final. He did not concede a single break point to his opponent and extended his head-to-head winning streak against the German player to nine consecutive victories.
"I’m very happy because I keep believing in myself. I show up every day, in every practice session, trying to do the right work with the right discipline," said Sinner.
"To do that, you need to have the right team behind you, and I have that. I’m very happy with myself, but also with the team, and this means a lot to all of us."
Before the tournament began, Zverev arrived in Madrid with the ambition of claiming his third title at this event. Success would have seen him match the record of Tennis Legends like Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer who have previously dominated the tournament.
However, in the final, Sinner proved too superior. The 24-year-old converted every break point he earned and won 93 percent of the points from his first serve.
From the start of the match, Sinner immediately pressured Zverev's game. He even led 5-0 in the first set as his opponent struggled to find his rhythm.
"I started the match very well, breaking straight away," said Sinner about his victory, achieved in just 58 minutes.
"He didn’t play his best tennis today, so I just tried to play aggressively and I’m very happy with my level."
"It’s amazing to win another title like this, it means a lot to me. It’s another incredible tournament."
Sinner's dominance continued in the second set. After breaking Zverev's serve again to lead 2-1, he became increasingly unstoppable. An additional break in the seventh game sealed the emphatic victory before he closed out the match with a perfect service game, not dropping a single point.
Sinner has now won eight of the nine existing Masters 1000 tournaments. The only title he hasn't yet captured is the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome.
The opportunity to complete the Career Golden Masters now lies wide open for Sinner at the tournament taking place next week in his homeland. If successful, he will match Novak Djokovic's achievement as a player who has won every Masters 1000 tournament.
