Jannik Sinner has chosen to focus on recovering his physical condition following his successful title win at the 2026 Italian Open. The world number one Tennis Player has no plans to immediately resume intensive training, instead opting to savour his victory with his family ahead of competing at the French Open.

Sinner's triumph in Rome marks an historic milestone for Italian tennis. He is the first Italian player to win the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome since Adriano Panatta last achieved this feat back in 1976.

"The priority is to recover properly over the coming two to three days," Sinner stated, as quoted by the ATP on Tuesday 19 May 2026.

The 24-year-old athlete confirmed he will not return to training imminently. Alongside his team, he will continue monitoring his physical condition before travelling to Paris to begin Roland Garros preparations.

"There will be almost no training, zero tennis practice. Physically, my team and I need to assess my condition first," the 24-year-old noted.

"I also want to be with my family right now. Step away completely from tennis. Then from Thursday onwards I expect to be in Paris preparing, and we will see How things progress. Right now, rest is the most important thing."

Sinner is projected to resume formal training preparations later this week ahead of Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam tournament of the 2026 season.

This Italian Open victory also delivered another landmark achievement for Sinner. The Rome crown completes his set of all nine ATP Masters 1000 trophies, officially securing the Career Golden Masters - an honour that to date has only ever been achieved by himself and Novak Djokovic.

Prior to winning in Rome, Sinner had already recorded a dominant run this season, claiming tournament titles at Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo and Madrid.

Sinner admitted that winning in front of his home crowd brought overwhelming, indescribable emotion.

"There is nowhere better I could have completed this collection," Sinner remarked.

"For any Italian, this is one of the most special places in the world to play tennis. To secure a victory here means everything to me."

Despite entering the final as the clear top seed, Sinner acknowledged he faced intense pressure during the match. He even lost his service game early in the contest, before managing to regroup and take control of the encounter.

"There was huge tension and very difficult moments, especially mentally. I am just glad I was able to stay calm and pull off this achievement," Sinner added.
