Raul Fernandez won the 2026 British MotoGP at Silverstone Circuit, Northamptonshire on Sunday. The TrackHouse MotoGP Team rider capitalised on a perfect start, then controlled the race all the way to the finish line to claim his second victory in the premier class.

Starting from second position, Fernandez took over the lead from Marco Bezzecchi at the first corner. Pole-sitter Jorge Martin lost positions after a component failure on his bike right at the race start.

This situation worked heavily in Fernandez's favour. By the third lap, the Spanish rider had set the fastest lap time and began opening up a clear gap over his rivals.

The battle behind Fernandez was far tighter. Bezzecchi initially held second place, while Martin fought to recover lost ground. Marc Marquez also briefly moved up into third position.

Silverstone Hit By Multiple Race Incidents

Drama unfolded midway through the grand prix. Enea Bastianini crashed out at Turn 17 on lap six. Iker Lecuona suffered an accident at Turn 12, followed by Cal Crutchlow going down at Turn 6 on lap seven.

Francesco Bagnaia was also forced into early retirement when he crashed at Turn 7 on lap eight. This incident occurred at the exact same corner where Bagnaia crashed during the previous edition of the British MotoGP.

As incidents unfolded, Martin began finding his race rhythm. On lap nine, the Aprilia rider overtook Bezzecchi to claim second position.

Alex Marquez looked set to join the podium battle before an unforced error from the Gresini Ducati rider dropped him two positions. This allowed Bezzecchi to reclaim third place, while Pedro Acosta moved up into fourth.

Shortly afterwards, Ai Ogura also saw his race end. The TrackHouse rider crashed at Turn 16 on lap nine, having been running in fifth place prior to the accident.

At the front, Fernandez grew increasingly comfortable in the lead. Heading into the final five laps, his advantage over Martin had stretched to more than four seconds.

Fernandez Builds Uncatchable Lead

As the race reached lap 18, battles continued to rage behind Fernandez. Fabio Di Giannantonio overtook Marc Marquez, then set off after Acosta to fight for fifth position.

All focus remained on the race leader however. The TrackHouse rider maintained his consistent pace perfectly, never giving Martin any window to close the gap.

On the final lap, Fernandez still held a comfortable safety margin. He crossed the finish line 2.540 seconds clear of Martin. Bezzecchi completed the podium in third place, finishing 3.713 seconds behind the winner.

This result marks Fernandez's second career MotoGP victory. His Silverstone win also extends the unique British Grand Prix streak, with Fernandez becoming the 12th different winner in the last 12 editions of the event.

Martin had to settle for second place. This result still carries major championship weight, as he extends his standings lead to 31 points. Bezzecchi moves up to second place in the championship, while Marc Marquez could only secure seventh position on the day.
