The slopes of Mount Rinjani will soon witness thousands of runners from around the world. A total of 2,275 participants from 38 countries are scheduled to compete in the annual Rinjani 100 race on Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara, from May 1–3, 2026.

Amid Sembalun's savannah, mountain forest trails, and volcanic panoramas, Rinjani 100 has transformed into one of Indonesia's most prestigious trail Running competitions.

This year, the event features 1,375 Indonesian runners and 900 international participants. These numbers signify Rinjani's growing global appeal.

FoneSport founder Hendra Wijaya stated all preparations have entered the final stage and are generally ready for execution.

"Coordination with local government, security forces, volunteers, and all supporting parties continues to ensure a smooth, safe, and successful event," he said during a meeting with West Nusa Tenggara Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal in Mataram on Tuesday.

For many runners, Rinjani 100 is not merely a race but an experience of conquering extreme trails through one of Southeast Asia's most captivating landscapes. Each ascent rewards runners with views of green valleys, mountain ridges, and tropical skies.

Hendra assessed the rising participation confirms Rinjani 100's increasing significance on the global trail running calendar.

"This demonstrates Rinjani 100's continuous evolution as a premier Indonesian trail running event gaining worldwide recognition," said Hendra Wijaya.

Furthermore, the meeting with the Governor also addressed Sembalun's immense potential as a year-round venue for diverse activities spanning Sports, culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy.

"Rinjani isn't just suitable for trail running but holds great potential for various national and international events. With collaborative management, this area could become a magnet for Indonesia's Sports Tourism," he stated.

Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal emphasized that Rinjani 100 transcends competition, serving as regional promotion and an economic catalyst for local communities.

"We appreciate and fully support Rinjani 100. We hope it grows into a high-quality agenda attracting tourists and delivering broad benefits to society," he remarked.

In villages along the race route, these benefits are tangible. Homestays, local transport, traditional cuisine, and Creative Economy players enjoy activity surges during each event.

Head of West Nusa Tenggara's Tourism and Creative Economy Office, Ahmad Nur Aulia, called Rinjani 100 an ideal public-private collaboration model for destination branding.

"Rinjani 100 isn't just a race but a means of Tourism Promotion for West Nusa Tenggara internationally. We observe significant economic impacts for locals, especially in homestays, transport, culinary, and creative sectors," he explained.

When the starting line opens this May, participants won't merely race against time. They'll trace paths through one of nature's most enchanting stages—where sport, adventure, and culture merge in one enduring breath called Rinjani.
