Manchester City vs Arsenal: Pep Guardiola Optimistic About Beating Mikel Arteta Again

Pep Guardiola sent a firm message ahead of this week's biggest clash in the Premier League. The Manchester City manager is confident his team can overcome Arsenal when the two title contenders meet at Etihad Stadium on Sunday, April 19 at night WIB.

In this 33rd-week match, Manchester City has the opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal while increasing pressure in the 2025/2026 Season title race.

Currently, City sits second in the standings with 64 points from 31 matches. They trail leaders Arsenal by six points (70 points), despite the Gunners having played one more game.

This situation makes the Etihad encounter crucial for the defending champions. A victory would reignite the title race and put significant pressure on Mikel Arteta's team for the remainder of the season.

City arrives with solid form after thrashing Chelsea 3-0 last week, extending their streak to three consecutive wins without conceding.

Guardiola's confidence is further bolstered by City's previous 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final. 

According to Guardiola, if his team performs at their best level, another victory is highly achievable.

"If we play like the second half of the Carabao Cup final for 95 minutes and they play like that too, we'll win. It might not be exactly the same because football is unpredictable, but this match will be tighter and that's what we want," Guardiola stated to The Guardian on Friday.

Despite his optimism, Guardiola recognizes Arsenal won't be the same team that lost the Carabao Cup final. He believes Arteta has prepared tactical adjustments to avenge that defeat.

The relationship between Guardiola and former City assistant Arteta adds intrigue to this duel. Both managers deeply understand each other's philosophies and approaches.

"I know Mikel. They'll adjust something and we must be ready to face it. Ultimately, it's simple: how our players win individual duels and how they perform on the pitch," said Guardiola.

For Arsenal, this match represents an opportunity to prove their readiness to claim the Premier League crown. For City, it's the stage to demonstrate that championship experience remains their ultimate weapon.
