The hunt for the 2025/2026 Premier League title enters its most decisive phase. Arsenal and Manchester City both face crucial matches this weekend, where victory is non-negotiable to keep their championship hopes alive.

Arsenal have a major opportunity to extend their lead at the top when they visit West Ham United in Matchweek 36 on Sunday, May 10. However, the London Stadium clash promises to be challenging as the hosts fight to escape the relegation zone.

The Gunners currently lead the provisional standings with 76 points from 35 matches. Mikel Arteta’s squad holds a five-point advantage over second-placed Manchester City, who have 71 points from 34 games.

Given this situation, Arsenal must capitalize on their match against West Ham to pile additional pressure on City in this season’s Premier League trophy race.

Despite being favored on paper, Arsenal are predicted to face fierce resistance. West Ham sit 18th with 36 points—just one point behind Tottenham Hotspur, who occupy the safety threshold.

With relegation looming, West Ham will undoubtedly throw everything into securing their survival in the top tier of English Football.

Elsewhere, Manchester City face immense pressure. Pep Guardiola’s side host Brentford on Saturday, May 9, with no option but victory.

Last week’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Everton cost City crucial momentum in the title race.

A win over Brentford is essential to prevent Arsenal from widening the gap.

Brentford won’t be pushovers. The seventh-placed club (51 points) still eyes European Qualification next season.

Beyond the title fight, the Champions League qualification battle intensifies. Manchester United, already assured of Champions League football and sitting third with 64 points, visit Sunderland on Saturday, May 9.

United approach the match on a three-game winning streak, but 12th-placed Sunderland could spring a surprise at home.

Spotlight also falls on Liverpool’s classic clash against Chelsea at Anfield. Fourth-placed Liverpool (58 points) must rebound after last week’s defeat to Manchester United.

Victory is vital for the Reds, who remain under threat from fifth-placed Aston Villa (level on points).

Chelsea arrive under different pressure. The Blues have dropped to ninth after five consecutive losses, diminishing their European qualification chances.

At the bottom, Burnley and Wolves are confirmed relegated. Burnley languish 19th with 20 points, while Wolves anchor the table with 18 points.

Tottenham Hotspur, newly escaped from the relegation zone, aren’t yet secure. Spurs lead West Ham by just one point and must defeat Leeds United at home on Tuesday, May 12.
