The future of Patrick Kluivert as coach of the Indonesian national team remains uncertain. The PSSI (Football Association of Indonesia) has not yet made a final decision regarding the next steps after the failure of the Garuda squad to advance to the 2026 World Cup.
PSSI Deputy Chairman I, Zainuddin Amali, revealed that they are still waiting for PSSI Chairman, Erick Thohir, to hold an Executive Committee (Exco) meeting that will discuss Kluivert's fate.
"Oh yes, waiting for the Chairman. He still has a wedding event. He's going to marry off his daughter. The wedding is on October 18th and 19th," said Amali at the Madya Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, Monday, October 13, 2025.

Amali emphasized that due to Erick Thohir's busy schedule, the Exco meeting will not be held in the near future.
Poor Report Card in 2026 World Cup Qualifiers
Previously, the Indonesian national team manager and Chairman of the National Team Body (BTN), Sumardji, stated that the Exco meeting would be the forum to determine the fate of Kluivert and his coaching staff.
This step was taken following disappointing results in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup Asian zone qualifiers. The Indonesian national team lost 2-3 to Saudi Arabia and 0-1 to Iraq, dashing the Garuda's hopes of flying to the United States and Canada in Jeddah.
Amali stated that before making a decision, the PSSI will wait for a complete report from Sumardji as Chairman of the BTN and team manager.
"We'll wait first for the report from the BTN Chairman who is also the manager. Then we'll take a stance. We don't know what the report is like yet," explained Amali.
Decision Cannot Be Unilateral
Despite increasing pressure from the public and supporters, Amali emphasized that the decision regarding Kluivert's future cannot be taken unilaterally. Everything must go through organizational mechanisms.
"No way. This is an organization. We must make decisions together. But the basis for our decision in the Exco meeting is the report from the BTN Chairman who is also the national team manager," he asserted.
When asked if there was a deadline for the Exco meeting, Amali answered casually,
"There's no 'latest by'. It will be when we're ready," he replied.
When journalists asked about the reason Kluivert and his team chose to return directly to the Netherlands after the two defeats in Jeddah, Amali claimed to know nothing about it.
Although Kluivert's future with the Indonesian national team now seems like waiting for the final whistle, all parties appear to be choosing patience. The PSSI wants to ensure the decision taken is truly objective, not just due to public pressure, but for the long-term direction of the national team.
Supporters now only wait: will Kluivert still be given a chance to redeem his failure, or will the PSSI seek a new captain to make the Garuda soar higher?
