PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir confirmed the search process for the new coach of the Indonesian National Team is ongoing. He revealed PSSI already has five candidate names to replace Patrick Kluivert.
Erick noted there's a FIFA Matchday in November 2025, but the major agenda is next year in March, June, September, October, and November.
PSSI, he continued, doesn't want to rush in determining the future coach of the Garuda squad. He ensured the process will be thorough through discussions with various stakeholders.

“We're learning again. We're trying to gather more names. We already have five names. But we need to refine further,” said Erick on the "Bukan Kaleng-kaleng" Podcast aired Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
Erick explained the coach selection discussions will involve PSSI stakeholders and the government, considering not all candidates may be willing to handle the Indonesian National Team.
“For these five names, we must discuss again with many parties – both within PSSI and government stakeholders – because: First, they might not be available. These are just aspirations. When asked, they might decline,” Erick stated.
Erick disclosed that from ten initial names, only five potential candidates remain. However, he didn't rule out the possibility that all five might eventually decline.
“That means fewer options. Previously there were even ten names. From those ten, five declined. So five left. Now these five names. What if all five refuse? This requires a process,” Erick explained.
Acknowledging high public expectations for the National Team, Erick urged patience. He emphasized PSSI has a clear timeframe for appointing the new coach.
“Patience is needed. But there will certainly be a time target,” said Erick.
When asked about the candidates' nationalities – whether from Latin America, Europe, or Indonesia – Erick chose not to specify to ensure smooth negotiations.
“The problem is, if I reveal countries and names, they might suddenly decline. Let's not even mention countries. Could I mention countries? There are likely 3-4 countries involved,” Erick replied.
Thus, Indonesian football fans now await who will be entrusted to elevate the Garuda National Team after the Patrick Kluivert era.
Erick ensured the final decision will be made with careful consideration for sustaining the Red and White's international achievements.
