Indonesia has officially been appointed as the host of the FIFA Series 2026. This appointment presents a golden opportunity to test the national team's quality against playing styles from outside Asia, which the Garuda squad has rarely encountered.

This biennial tournament serves as a stage for national teams across confederations to compete in high-level international friendly matches.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino affirmed that the FIFA Series is designed to open broad development opportunities for players and coaches.

“The FIFA Series aims to unlock development potential for players, coaches, and fans while promoting football's universality and diversity through meaningful matches. The 2026 edition will further enhance this impact for both men's and women's football,” Infantino stated on FIFA's website on Friday.

The FIFA Series 2026 tournament will be held during the international break in March and April next year, featuring both men's and women's matches.

Indonesia is mandated to host men's category matches alongside other hosts including Australia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Mauritius, Puerto Rico, Rwanda, and Uzbekistan. For the women's category, the tournament debut will occur in Brazil, Ivory Coast, and Thailand.

The FIFA Series format brings together national teams from different confederations in one group. Its primary goal is to create football interactions between countries without adding match calendar burden while providing competitive experience rarely available in regional matches.

PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir emphasized this moment's crucial importance for the Indonesian national team's development.

“I've received confirmation from FIFA that our lobbying has succeeded. Indonesia is officially entrusted to host next year's FIFA Series event. Alhamdulillah, we've once again secured the mandate to organize an official FIFA tournament,” he stated on PSSI's website.

Erick stressed that participating in the FIFA Series would significantly impact the Garuda, particularly in gaining experience against teams from other continents.

“I appreciate FIFA's renewed trust in Indonesia. This demonstrates FIFA's recognition of our federation's and supporters' enthusiasm in seriously developing football and hosting global-scale events,” said Erick.

He added that facing non-Asian opponents would provide an ideal test for players and coaches.

“Undoubtedly, this achievement stems from the full support of President Prabowo Subianto, who has consistently championed Indonesian football's international progress. For this, I express my deepest gratitude to the President,” he added.

For the Indonesian national team, FIFA Series 2026 could serve as a vital window to observe global football trends, evaluate strategies, and measure progress made in recent years.
