Access to the Bromo Tourism area in Probolinggo Regency, East Java has been temporarily closed starting from Wonokerto Village, Sukapura District. The local government urges tourists to postpone Travel during the closure period. All access routes are confirmed impassable for Tourism activities.
"For tourists planning to visit after the reopening on 21 March 2026 afternoon, we recommend booking tickets online well in advance as there's usually a post-closure visitation surge," said Head of Probolinggo Regency's Youth, Sports and Tourism Office Her Mulyadi on Thursday.
This policy is implemented to commemorate the Saka New Year's Nyepi Holiday 1948 and welcome the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah celebration.

"The closure refers to Circular Letter No. 604/SE/PHDI-KAB/II/2026 from the Indonesian Hindu Dharma Council (PHDI) of Probolinggo Regency, effective from Thursday (19/3) at 06:00 WIB until Friday (20/3) at 06:00 WIB," he explained.
During this period, all tourism activities are completely suspended. For the Tengger people, Nyepi is a time for silence and respite from worldly bustle, including tourism which drives the region's economy.
However, the reasons extend beyond this. Simultaneously, this moment provides space for tourism workers to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with family.
"Closing tourist access respects Tengger communities observing Nyepi so they may worship peacefully and solemnly. Conversely, we're giving tourism workers celebrating Eid al-Fitr the opportunity to gather with families," he stated.
When Bromo reopens, its landscape may remain unchanged - the sand sea, Smoking crater, and magical sunrise. Yet the underlying meaning reveals that Tourist Destinations encompass not just physical journeys, but journeys of values.
"May this sacred moment bring peace, strengthen mutual respect, and bestow blessings upon all," he concluded. (ANTARA)
