Janice Tjen's journey at the Qatar Total Energies Open 2026 ended when she faced Iga Swiatek. Facing the world No. 2 in the second round of the WTA 1000 Doha, Janice was forced to accept a 0-6, 3-6 defeat.
The wildcard from Indonesia arrived with confidence after an impressive win in the first round. But across the net stood Swiatek, a six-time Grand Slam Champion who took control of the match from the very first stroke.
Swiatek gave no room. Crosscourt winners became the Polish player's main weapon. She played aggressively, shortened rallies, and forced Janice to defend constantly.

Janice's serve wavered, and double faults in the sixth game of the first set were ruthlessly exploited.
The result was a first set lasting just 26 minutes. Swiatek recorded a 90 percent return rate and converted three of six break points. The 6-0 scoreline affirmed her dominance.
However, Janice did not completely crumble. Entering the second set, the world No. 46 showed a response.
She played more boldly, increased her intensity, and forced Swiatek to work harder. The score was briefly tied at 3-3, Janice's best moment in the match.
But experience spoke. Swiatek survived a long deuce in the seventh game, then stepped on the gas again.
She accelerated the pace and intensified the pressure. Without much drama, she closed the match with an ace after one hour and nine minutes.
This victory sends Swiatek to the Round of 16 to face Daria Kasatkina on Wednesday, February 11th.
For Janice, this defeat still leaves progress. She opened the tournament with a straight-sets win over Beatrice Haddad Maia. This result confirms her capacity to compete at the WTA 1000 level.
Before Doha, Janice also recorded a first-round win in her WTA 500 Abu Dhabi debut. She defeated Australia's rising No. 1, Maya Joint, via a rubber set. Her run there was halted by fifth seed Liudmila Samsonova.
In doubles, Janice went even further. Partnering with Alexandra Eala from the Philippines, she reached the semifinals after defeating second seeds Zhang Shuai/Cristina Bucsa.
