As daylight slowly gives way to the dimming sky, tiny points of light begin to appear among the ANTARA foliage of the tropical forest. This is the moment when fireflies dance in the air, now part of a nature exploration program developed by Kebun Raya Bedugul in Tabanan Regency, bali.
The managers of Kebun Raya Bedugul present the Firefly Exploration and biodiversity program. This step is an effort to build public awareness about the importance of Conservation of flora and fauna.
According to the Director of the Botanical Garden Management, this program is designed so that Conservation is not just a concept, but a direct experience.

"So that conservation efforts do not stop at protecting the area but also foster collective awareness," said the Director of Botanical Garden Management, Marga Anggrianto, in Tabanan, Bali, Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
Adventure Witnessing Fireflies
The firefly watching adventure runs from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM Central Indonesia Time.
This time was chosen because it is the crepuscular period, the transition time from day to night, when fireflies are actively communicating through light.
Exploration participants are invited to traverse various natural landscapes within the botanical garden area in the Lake Beratan scenic area, tropical forests, to Taman Panca Yadnya.
Along these paths, several species of fireflies can be found. For example, Lamprigera species pluralis (Spp) and Abscondita Spp can be found in the lake area and Taman Panca Yadnya.
Indicator of a Healthy Environment
The presence of fireflies is not just a beautiful sight, but an indicator of stable climatic conditions marked by high humidity, cool temperatures, good air circulation, and low intensity of artificial light.
These conditions create an optimal habitat for these naturally luminous insects.
The light of fireflies comes from the process of bioluminescence, a natural chemical reaction within the insect's body that produces almost no heat and functions as a communication tool, especially in the reproduction process.
Besides fireflies, participants also have the opportunity to observe nocturnal fauna such as amphibians, reptiles, birds, and other types of insects against the backdrop of tropical forest vegetation.
Collaboration for Nature Education
This program is run in collaboration with the nature lovers community Nusantara Wilderness, which focuses on nature exploration.
For them, this exploration is not just Tourism, but a learning process to understand natural systems.
"Botanical gardens play a crucial role in habitat protection," he said.
Through the flickering lights of fireflies at Bedugul dusk, Kebun Raya Bali not only offers a magical visual experience but also presents a reflective journey about the relationship between humans and nature.
