Along Java's southern rail route, Travel is no longer just about departure and arrival points. Through the wide windows of the Panoramic Train, the landscape unfolds gradually. Layered green hills, golden rice fields, gently winding rivers, alongside historical tunnels and iconic bridges mark the passage of time. Here, the journey transforms into an experience.
This transformation was evident during the 2025 Christmas and 2025/2026 New Year transportation period. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded the Panoramic Train serving 11,819 passengers with an occupancy rate of 120 percent of its total 9,576 seats.
This figure reflects a shift in How people perceive travel – no longer just moving from place to place, but enjoying the process of moving through the landscape.

"Public interest in enjoying train travel as part of the Tourism experience continues to show a positive trend," said KAI's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
The Panoramic Train represents the global shift towards experience-based tourism, where the value of the journey lies in the sensations, visuals, and connection with the spaces traversed.
This service operates on the Argo Wilis and Turangga trains (Bandung–Surabaya Gubeng route), the Pangandaran train (Gambir–Banjar route), the Papandayan train (Gambir–Garut route), and the Parahyangan train (Gambir–Bandung route).
These routes connect major cities with regions rich in natural landscapes, culture, and local economies.
Anne stated that the Panoramic Train addresses current travel trends, where people don't just want to reach their destination, but also enjoy the journey itself.
Volcanic soil contours, terraced rice fields, tropical forests, and villages pulsing gently to the rhythm of nature.
This visual experience makes the journey an integral part of the destination itself.
However, the impact of the Panoramic Train extends beyond passengers' personal experiences. Its presence drives tourist movement to destination cities and regencies, revitalizing the hospitality, culinary, MSME, and local creative industries.
Along the routes it travels, the local economy moves in tandem with the arrival of tourists who don't just pass through, but arrive with curiosity about the places.
In the context of sustainability, trains also offer a lower-emission travel model compared to other modes of transport.
Amidst increasing tourist awareness of their travel carbon footprint, the Panoramic Train positions itself as part of a more environmentally friendly and responsible Tourism approach.
At the journey's end, what remains isn't just photos or distance logs, but memories of landscapes slowly shifting beyond the window pane.
