Traveling by Train on Java Island's routes transcends mere transportation, evolving into a continuous Cultural Experience. PT Kereta Api Indonesia has upgraded services for KA Bangunkarta and KA Singasari, two classic routes linking urban centers with Javanese Culture.

Starting April 15, 2026, journeys on the Pasarsenen-Jombang and Pasarsenen-Blitar routes transform with New Generation Stainless Steel trains gliding along these tracks, blending modern aesthetics with long-distance travel rhythms.

Spacious cabins, ergonomic seats, and clean interior designs ensure comfort from the moment passengers step aboard.

For many commuters, Bangunkarta and Singasari represent more than transit—they carry deep historical significance.

Bangunkarta traces its roots to the KA Tebuireng service established in 1985, originally connecting Jombang and Jakarta.

Singasari continues Java's cross-island travel traditions, evolving with the times while maintaining its faithful Pasarsenen-Blitar route.

Amid growing mobility demands, modernization becomes imperative. These new trains operate on Bangunkarta routes KA 161/162 and Singasari routes KA 149/150.

"KAI is executing a program to procure 612 New Generation Stainless Steel Train units from PT INKA (Persero) through 2026. Currently, 391 units are operational, enhancing passenger comfort," stated Anne Purba, KAI's Vice President of Corporate Communication.

This upgrade responds to measurable demand: Both services saw rising passenger numbers in early 2026.

Bangunkarta served 108,711 passengers (up from 100,703 in Q1 2025), while Singasari recorded 110,405 passengers (surpassing Q1 2025's 97,008).

Travel Experience remains central. More ergonomic seating, expanded legroom, and modern cabin atmospheres make long journeys less fatiguing.

Every detail addresses contemporary travelers' needs—prioritizing comfort without compromising efficiency.

"We actively incorporate customer feedback into our evaluations. Each journey teaches us How to enhance comfort for future trips," Anne explained.

Quality improvements reflect in KAI's rising Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI)—climbing from 4.47 (2023) to 4.52 (2024) and 4.56 (2025).

Beyond statistics and technology, train travel retains its enduring essence.

"Every journey carries its own Story. KAI ensures customers experience comfortable, safe, and memorable trips from departure to arrival," Anne concluded.
