Train Travel in Indonesia has increasingly shifted in meaning. No longer just a means of moving between cities, it has transformed into part of the Tourism experience. This changing perspective is reflected in the sharp surge of Panoramic Train passengers throughout 2025.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded 150,176 Panoramic Train passengers managed by KAI Wisata throughout 2025. This figure grew 38.6 percent compared to 2024's 108,337 passengers.
"This growth shows train journeys are increasingly chosen as part of tourism agendas, especially by communities prioritizing comfort and experiential value during travel," stated KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba in a Jakarta press release on Friday, January 2, 2026.

According to Anne, train travel is now seen as a moment to enjoy time, atmosphere, and landscapes along the tracks, not merely a process to reach destinations.
This trend is reflected in rising public interest toward Panoramic Train services, which offer a distinct Travel Experience from departure onward.
The positive performance peaked in December 2025 when 16,632 passengers chose Panoramic Train services, making it the highest monthly achievement that year.
This surge aligned with the Year-End Holiday period, where train travel was utilized as part of Family Tourism and recreational activities.
During the 2025 Christmas Transport and 2026 New Year period (December 18, 2025 - January 1, 2026), KAI Wisata recorded 20,433 passengers enjoying various Railway Tourism services, including Panoramic, Priority, and Imperial.
This figure reflects public preference for travel services offering comfort, uniqueness, and memorable experiences. It simultaneously marks a cultural shift in Indonesian travel habits. (ANTARA)
