Beaches, city centers, and main tourist attractions are often crowded with visitors during Christmas and New Year holidays. However, in Banyumas, Central Java, the local government offers Tourism Villages as a quieter, more authentic, and nature and local culture-rooted Alternative Destination.
As the calendar approaches year-end, tourist flows typically surge toward popular destinations.
The Banyumas Regency Government encourages strengthening Tourism villages to expand Holiday options for the community while boosting village economies.

This approach aims not only to increase visits but also to create more meaningful Travel experiences away from crowds and closer to residents' daily lives.
“Tourism villages have great potential as alternative destinations amid high tourist mobility during the Year-End Holiday period related to Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026,” stated Setia Rahendra, Head of Banyumas Regency's Youth, Sports, Culture and Tourism Office (Dinporabudpar), in Purwokerto on Wednesday.
For Setia, tourism villages aren't merely backup options. He believes this concept offers distinct experiences.
Exploring nature, interacting with traditions, and experiencing villages' slower rhythms simultaneously solve overcrowding at primary destinations.
Developing tourism villages in Banyumas isn't done haphazardly. Each village must build upon its actual potential like natural beauty, water resources, or other attractions.
According to Setia, this scheme is expected to create Sustainable Tourism while increasing villages' original revenue.
Dinporabudpar doesn't stop at policy encouragement alone. They facilitate various supporting aspects from licensing and management training to socialization and technical guidance.
Safety and service become primary concerns during year-end holidays when visit surges are nearly unavoidable.
Safe, orderly, and friendly experiences are believed to leave deep impressions on tourists and encourage repeat visits.
Tourism villages' existence is expected to distribute tourist flows more evenly rather than concentrating them in single locations.
“The local government also coordinates with various parties through joint Christmas and New Year security meetings to ensure tourism activities in Banyumas proceed safely, orderly, and comfortably for both tourists and local residents,” he concluded.(ANTARA)
