This 2.3-kilometer-long bridge not only crosses rivers and coastal land but also serves as a lever for new economic growth in Kulon Progo and Bantul.
From agriculture to fisheries, and now tourism, the pulse of life in the southern area of DIY feels more dynamic again.

“Kabanaran Bridge not only strengthens inter-regional connectivity but also provides significant socio-economic impacts for the community, ranging from more efficient transportation access to boosting the growth of the tourism sector and economic activities in the coastal area," said SIG Corporate Secretary, Vita Mahreyni, in a statement on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
Technically, Kabanaran Bridge adopts the Multi-Arch Bridge concept, combining Corrugated Steel Plate (CSP) and foam mortar. The result is a sturdy bridge with a futuristic appearance while still breathing local culture.
Symbolic gunungan ornaments, keris scroll motifs, to nitik batik present Yogyakarta's subtle and meaningful character.
In the morning, sunlight reflects on the bridge arches, creating artistic silhouettes that make it worthy of becoming a new photo tourism icon.
The charm of Kabanaran Bridge does not stop at aesthetics. This infrastructure provides direct access to 2,164 hectares of agricultural land in Galur District, opening opportunities for production increases of up to 9,143 quintals of vegetables and fruits annually.
Meanwhile, the fisheries sector in Srandakan District is also boosted with an increase in yield of about 13 tons per year.
President Prabowo sees Kabanaran Bridge as a strategic step for economic equality and improving the quality of life of southern coastal residents.
This infrastructure is expected to strengthen salt farmer centers, seaweed industry, and ignite new hope for tourism—from hotel development potential to cultural and spiritual tourism destinations.
As a southern Java connectivity node, the President emphasized the importance of this bridge in opening new access for domestic and international tourists.
“This is later expected to ease connectivity, also ease access to areas that are so beautiful, so important in Javanese culture, full of spirituality. We have heard plans to develop this area to support tourism—potentially good hotels, facilities—because we must boost tourism. Tourism is a massive foreign exchange contributor and a huge job absorber," said the President.
With its still-natural coastal landscape, symbol-rich Javanese culture, and modern infrastructure serving as the new gateway to Yogyakarta's southern tourism, Kabanaran Bridge becomes new hope for a continuously growing destination.
