Amid increasingly crowded holiday trends and long queues, more young travelers are choosing to slow down. Instead of chasing popular, packed destinations, authentic and personal travel experiences are now the main pursuit. This concept is known as slow travel – a way of traveling that emphasizes tranquility, closeness to nature, and deeper connections with the surrounding environment.
For tourists seeking such experiences, Menjangan Island in West Bali National Park offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of southern Bali.
This small island in Buleleng Regency is known as one of the quietest spots on the Island of Gods, far from crowded beach clubs and nightlife centers.

The journey to Menjangan Island does require a time commitment. From Denpasar City, travelers need to undertake a land trip of over three hours to reach the accommodation area and ferry dock. However, that long journey pays off in full upon arrival in this area, where the natural atmosphere still feels overwhelmingly dominant.
On Menjangan Island, tourists can experience something hard to find in mainstream destinations. Sitting leisurely under shady trees while gazing at the clean, calm beach becomes a simple yet memorable activity.
Wild animals like monkeys and deer (menjangan) are often seen roaming freely in their natural habitat, offering a truly nature-immersive tourism experience.
Several deer were seen resting under the trees around Plataran Menjangan Resort & Spa when participants of the Familiarization Trip program titled "Hidden Bali: Serenity, Nature and Sustainability" visited the resort located in Buleleng Regency.
The presence of wildlife around the resort is an attraction in itself. Troops of monkeys are also frequently spotted roaming the unpaved roads around the lodging area.
Although they appear tame, tourists are advised not to feed the monkeys to preserve their natural behavior. When passing through paths frequented by monkey troops, visitors are also recommended to keep a close watch on their belongings to avoid sudden snatching.
Besides offering terrestrial tranquility, Menjangan Island is also renowned as one of Bali's best underwater paradises. Its crystal-clear waters are home to diverse, colorful marine life, from clownfish to Moorish idols.
The relatively well-preserved coral reefs make snorkeling a must-do activity for visiting tourists.
Snorkeling at Menjangan Island offers a distinct experience due to the high water visibility and minimal disturbance from tourist traffic. Visitors can enjoy the underwater beauty more freely, as if in a serene natural aquarium.
For those wanting to savor the morning atmosphere differently, kayaking along the coastline can be an appealing option. With favorable weather, tourists get the chance to witness the sunrise over the water, creating reflective moments perfect for photography enthusiasts and nature-themed visual content.
Equally enjoyable, walking along the beach is also a favored activity. During early mornings when the tide is low, tourists can enjoy a wider expanse of the beach. However, wearing footwear is still advised to ensure comfort and safety during the walk.
Menjangan Island isn't just a holiday destination; it's a space to momentarily step back from the fast-paced rhythm of life. For young travelers seeking tranquility, authentic experiences, and closeness to nature, this island offers a new definition of a memorable vacation – without the crowds.
