At the heart of the world's Coral Triangle, Wakatobi is emerging not only as a global-class marine Tourist Destination, but also as the living space for thousands of island communities. To keep the economic and Tourism pulse flowing, sea connectivity becomes an irreplaceable lifeline.

PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) is reinforcing its commitment to support the water connectivity of Wakatobi Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, to boost the region's tourism and economic sectors through reliable ferry services.

From Bau-Bau, ASDP operates crossings to Wakatobi via the Kamaru route in Buton Regency, opening strategic access for human mobility and inter-island logistics distribution.

ASDP's President Director Heru Widodo emphasized that this service transcends mere transportation functionality.

"This service not only facilitates community mobility but also opens access to goods distribution and promotes sustainable growth in the archipelago's tourism and economic sectors," stated Heru.

As one of the archipelago's marine jewels, the Wakatobi Islands continue to captivate global tourists.

This potential drives ASDP's Bau-Bau Branch to play a strategic role in strengthening interregional connectivity through reliable and sustainable ferry services.

Strengthening the Bau-Bau crossing route is part of the company's commitment to providing optimal sea connectivity, especially for outer, frontier, and underdeveloped (3T) island regions.

Heru stressed that ferries serve as vital economic connectors.

"We're not just connecting islands; we're unlocking economic opportunities for communities. The Wakatobi route exemplifies How maritime connectivity can support tourism while enhancing community welfare," said Heru.

Wakatobi is renowned as a Marine Tourism paradise within the coral triangle, featuring mesmerizing coral reefs and marine biodiversity.

Island clusters like Wangi-Wangi, Kaledupa, Tomia, and Hoga offer world-class snorkeling and Diving experiences while driving local economies through Sustainable Tourism.

Beyond tourism, the region relies on local food potential. Marine products form the backbone of the economy, supplemented by sustainably managed cassava, corn, and sago production.

Efficient marine transportation thus becomes crucial for maintaining goods distribution, price stability, and island economic Continuity.

ASDP Bau-Bau Branch General Manager Zullivan Ramadhana explained they currently manage five commercial routes and fourteen pioneer routes supported by fourteen vessels.

KMP Bahteramas II and KMP Sultan Murhum II serve as the backbone for Wakatobi connections via strategic routes: Kamaru-Wanci and Kamaru-Kaledupa-Wanci-Tomia-Binongko.

Throughout 2025, ferry services to Wakatobi have transported over 14,000 passengers and approximately 10,000 vehicles.

These figures reflect high connectivity demands and underscore the Bau-Bau route's strategic role in supporting island tourism and economies.
