You must often hear about the sport of Padel, right?
Padel has become quite a popular sport recently. Who would have thought that this sport, invented in 1969 by Enrique Corcuera in Mexico, actually gained popularity in Indonesia by mid-2025? Originally, Enrique was fond of tennis. However, due to insufficient space for a tennis court in his backyard, he created a smaller court than standard tennis dimensions, resulting in the first Padel court.
This sport requires a 20x10 meter area with rules similar to tennis. To win, players must score 15, 30, 40, deuce (when tied at 40-40), advantage (winning the next point after deuce), and game (winning two consecutive points after deuce).

Essentially, Padel combines elements of squash and tennis, but with some modifications. One key difference is the racket. Therefore, it's crucial to prepare the necessary equipment for Padel players.
Preparation Required for Beginners
Beyond the racket, several items need preparation before playing Padel. Especially since it's recently regained popularity, many beginners don't know what to prepare.
First, the Padel racket itself. This racket has detailed specifications. It consists of two parts: the head and the handle. The handle must have a maximum length of 20 cm, width of 50 mm, and thickness of 50 mm. The combined length of head and handle shouldn’t exceed 45.5 cm, with a maximum width of 26 cm and thickness of 38 mm. The handle end has a non-elastic cord that must be wrapped around the wrist for safety.
Second, outfit. Choosing appropriate clothing is essential. Use lightweight, comfortable, and breathable outfits, as players will likely sweat heavily. While no specific clothing is mandatory, dry-fit technology is highly recommended for quick sweat absorption.
Third, footwear selection. Each shoe type serves different purposes. Choose shoes specifically designed for Padel, featuring strong grip, comfort for running and chasing balls, and proper fit. Pay special attention to insole/outsole patterns and upper materials. Also consider durability, cushioning, and lateral movement support.
These three elements must be properly prepared to avoid injuries during or after playing Padel.
Hydration and Mental Preparation Are Equally Important
Beyond equipment, Padel players—especially beginners—need to prepare additional essentials.
First, bring and drink mineral water and isotonic beverages to replace fluids and energy expended during play. This prevents dehydration caused by fluid loss. Drink water regularly before, during, and after playing to maintain hydration.
Second, mental readiness. Mental preparation is equally vital for Padel players, particularly beginners. While most sports can relieve stress and boost mood, mental conditioning remains essential. With proper mental preparation, winning or losing becomes secondary.
So, it turns out there are many things to prepare before playing Padel, especially for beginners. This ensures injury prevention and keeps Padel an enjoyable sport for everyone.
