The battle for the 2026 MotoGP world championship title is heating up ahead of the German MotoGP round at the Sachsenring. Ducati Lenovo rider Marc Marquez has revealed that his biggest threat does not come from his on-track rivals.
Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi currently hold the top two positions in the provisional championship standings. However according to Marquez, his toughest opponent is his own physical condition.
This statement emerged as Marquez has slowly mounted a comeback following a difficult start to the season plagued by injury.

After trailing the championship leader by 102 points immediately after the Italian MotoGP round, Marquez's chances of defending his world title were widely doubted. But his victory at the Hungarian MotoGP became the turning point that rebuilt his confidence.
Marquez's resurgence has also been assisted by inconsistent results from his competitors. He has now cut the deficit to just 40 points behind Jorge Martin ahead of the Sachsenring race weekend.
"For me, my toughest opponent right now is my own physical condition," Marquez stated ahead of the German MotoGP, as quoted by Crash.net.
He is not preoccupied with how his rivals are performing.
"I know all my rivals are very fast. But my main focus is to keep improving my form over the coming races," he continued.
Focused On Restoring Race Form
The 2026 MotoGP season is proving to be one of the most competitive campaigns in recent history. Only 63 points separate the entire top eight riders in the provisional standings, leaving the championship fight completely wide open.
Marquez has chosen to prioritise returning to his peak performance rather than tracking the results of his rivals.
The 33-year-old rider acknowledged that the challenge at the Sachsenring will differ significantly from the Assen round held two weeks prior.
"This is a completely different situation to the race at Assen. I have arrived at Sachsenring with a different mindset. Right from the first free practice session (FP1), I want to test exactly what we are capable of on this circuit," Marquez explained.
He is targeting a return to front-running pace and a strong finishing result this weekend.
"My target is to fight for a podium position," the 33-year-old rider concluded.
