Liverpool enters Matchday Six of the 2025/2026 Champions League under intense pressure. Their star player, Mohamed Salah, is reportedly excluded from the squad for the crucial clash against Inter Milan at San Siro on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 03:00 WIB.

This report was first published by renowned journalist David Ornstein in The Athletic.

Tension Mounts Following Salah’s Public Comments

In his report, Ornstein stated Salah would not travel to Italy. This decision comes after the player’s sharp criticism following Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road.

"Mohamed Salah is expected to be omitted from Liverpool’s squad for Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Inter, though a final decision has not been made," wrote Ornstein.

The decision is said to originate from sporting director Richard Hughes and senior club officials.

This move reaffirms Liverpool’s backing of manager Arne Slot despite a poor run since late September.

During this period, Liverpool has played 15 matches across all competitions, securing only four wins while suffering nine defeats and two draws.

Tensions escalated after Salah’s post-Leeds interview, where he openly admitted his relationship with Slot had deteriorated. He even suggested certain individuals wanted him out of the club.

These remarks followed the Egyptian forward being benched for three consecutive Premier League matches—against West Ham, Sunderland, and Leeds.

Liverpool Insists This Is Not Punishment

While Salah’s absence dominates headlines, Ornstein emphasized this omission is not a disciplinary sanction.

"The decision would be taken by sporting director Richard Hughes alongside the club’s owners and would underline their support for head coach Arne Slot," wrote Ornstein.

Liverpool views the situation as an isolated incident that won’t affect Salah’s selection chances, including this weekend’s Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield.

"Liverpool do not regard the omission of the Egypt international at Inter as disciplinary… the move is viewed as an isolated incident," stated Ornstein.

Salah is confirmed to leave Liverpool on December 15, 2025, to join Egypt’s national team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. This makes the Brighton match likely his final appearance before an extended absence.

Mohamed Salah’s exclusion at San Siro adds significant pressure on Arne Slot. Amid erratic performances and internal friction, Liverpool faces Inter Milan carrying a heavy burden.
