Indonesia Badminton Team Appoints Two Captains for SEA Games 2025

The Indonesian badminton team prepares to begin their journey towards the top podium at the 2025 SEA Games Thailand. Women's doubles player Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and men's doubles player Sabar Karyaman Gutama have been appointed as the captains of the women's and men's team events respectively.

According to an official PBSI release, the appointments came ahead of the first training session at Gymnasium 4, Thammasat University Rangsit Campus, on Friday, December 5, 2025.

This step was taken to enhance the cohesion of the Red-White squad, which aims for optimal performance in both the team and individual events. 

The appointments of Febriana and Sabar are expected to provide new leadership direction amid the intense competition in the badminton event at this Southeast Asian sports event.

Febriana welcomed this appointment enthusiastically. She expressed high optimism that the women's team has the strength to reclaim gold.

"Happy to be chosen as captain. My teammates and I want to show that this women's team can win a gold medal for Indonesia," said the athlete, affectionately known as Ana.

For the men's sector, Sabar, making his SEA Games debut, acknowledged there is specific pressure but affirmed his readiness to carry out this responsibility.

"This is my first multi-sport event, and there is pressure when chosen as captain. But it's okay, perhaps because I am the most senior, so my teammates chose me, and I am ready," said Sabar.

He added that team cohesion will play a major role in Indonesia's effort to maintain its dominance.

"Team unity and communication with each other will be the key to this team's success. I believe whoever is fielded can contribute points for the Red-White," he said. 

Indonesia brings positive momentum from the 2023 SEA Games, where badminton contributed five gold, three silver, and three bronze medals. 

The five golds came from men's singles player Christian Adinata, men's doubles pair Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Rambitan, women's doubles pair Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi, mixed doubles pair Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati, and the men's team event.

The badminton events for the 2025 SEA Games will be held from December 6-10 for the team events and December 11-14 for the individual events, all taking place at Gymnasium 4, Thammasat University Rangsit Campus.

With two new captains and a gold-winning tradition to uphold, Indonesia will come to Thailand not just to participate, but to win.
