World number one Women's Singles Badminton athlete from South Korea, An Se-young, once again proved her dominance by winning the Indonesia Open 2026. At the final match held at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta on Sunday, 7 June 2026, An defeated Japan's representative Akane Yamaguchi in straight games with scores of 23-21 and 21-12.

Secured in just 39 minutes, this victory confirmed An successfully retained her Indonesia Open title which she had also won at the 2025 tournament edition.

"I think I played really well today. I was in great condition, and the match ran exactly at the tempo I wanted," An stated after the match.

The 2026 Indonesia Open trophy becomes the fifth title An has collected throughout this season. This achievement also brings her total Indonesia Open titles to three, following previous championship wins in 2021 and 2025.

During the first game, An initially struggled against Akane Yamaguchi's aggressive playstyle. The Japanese athlete gained an early 5-2 lead and kept applying consistent pressure at the start of the match.

However, An gradually found her best playing rhythm, equalised the score at 8-8 before turning the match around. The South Korean shuttler then closed the first game interval with a narrow 11-9 lead.

The match remained tightly contested after the break. Akane kept Putting up resistance and forced an equal score up to 21-21. Despite being under pressure, An kept her composure and effectively converted critical points to claim the first game 23-21.

Entering the second game, Akane once again tried to initiate attacks and led briefly in the early phase. However, An demonstrated her quality as the world's top ranked player by taking full control of the match flow.

She led 11-8 at the interval before extending her lead after the break. An's fast and precise plays left Akane unable to develop her own game. The gap widened to 16-10 before An eventually sealed the victory with a final score of 21-12.

"Instead of setting specific targets, I prefer to maintain my routine and the standard of excellence I aim for, including keeping on improving my performance," said An.

The young shuttler also reaffirmed her ambition to keep up consistency and become an unbeatable athlete at every tournament.

"More than any particular goal, what I want is to be an athlete that nobody can beat. I do not want to lose, I only want to win," she stated.

According to An, competition in the Women's Singles category is growing increasingly competitive, as every athlete keeps improving over time.

"All badminton players this era are extremely skilled. Winning matches is never easy. Every player keeps raising their level, new talents keep emerging, and I have to account for all of that," An added.

She also expressed appreciation for the progress of Indonesian women's singles players, whom she noted possess great playing quality and intensity.

"I will have to learn and train much more to be able to compete against them," said An.

With this 2026 Indonesia Open title, An Se-young now has collected three trophies from this prestigious tournament throughout her career. This record puts her alongside Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying and India's Saina Nehwal in the list of most Indonesia Open women's singles title holders.

Even so, Indonesian Badminton legend Susy Susanti still holds the all-time record as the most successful women's singles player in Indonesia Open history with six titles. She is followed by former Chinese shuttler Li Lingwei, who won four championship titles at the tournament.
